Austrian Man Dies During Swim In Sriracha

SRIRACHA:--A 57-year-old Austrian man drowned while swimming at Bangphra beach in Sriracha. His Laotian girlfriend told police they were drinking and eating on the beach for the New Year festival. The Austrian then went for a swim, but quietly drowned with no one noticing, until it was too late.

SRIRACHA – December 31, 2012 [PDN]; a report of a drowning victim was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Sukit Hemra, inspector police on duty, Sriracha police station. He rushed to inspect the scene with the rescue officer of Sawangpratheeptharmmasatharn Sriracha foundation.

The incident occurred at Bangphra beach, Moo 2 Tambon Bangphra, Amphur Sriracha, Chonburi province. The victim was discovered floating in the water by his Laotian girlfriend. He was identified as Mr. Hakkinen Arikalervo age 57, nationality Austrian.

He was wearing only iron-rust color pants. Officers arriving at the scene retrieved his body from the sea. They estimated he had been dead for about an hour. They did not find any wounds or injuries on his body.

Police questioned Ms. Nonglak Bootsamphan, age 35, from Laos, who said she is the Austrian’s girlfriend. She told police that she had persuaded her boyfriend to sit and relax with her at Bangphra beach for the New Year festival.
