Multi-Entry Visa. Do You Have To Leave The Country?

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Been reading conflicting things online, if no one is sure here i'l have to bite the bullet and call the embassy and sit in the queue to get an answer :D

On multiple entry ED visa, do you have to leave the country every 3 months? The last thing I read says if its single entry for 12 months you can just report to immigration in BKK however if its multientry 12 month visa you have to actually leave and return.

Any solid information would be awesome.

Cheers,

H

You want be sitting in embasies ques it will be immigrations as it is their concern now

i guess yu would have to do border runs since it is multi (i guess 90 days )

Not sure why u didnt get a one year ed

BUT IM NO EXPERT

Unless you extend your stay at immigration with a TM.7, paperwork from school and payment of 1,900 baht you would have to exit country to obtain a new 90 day permitted to stay with a multi entry visa.

It is a one year ed visa, but I want to travel outside Thailand and back again.. you can get a 1 year ed visa single entry or multi entry.

@lopburi3, so with a 12 month multi entry ed visa the option is there to to visit immigration rather than leaving and coming back? I'm confused as to why I need to extend it when its a 12 month visa...

Thanks,

The visa entry is 90 days max. You have no option unless you qualify for extension of stay (class study and meeting requirements for either 90 day or one year extension of stay). Otherwise you must depart within the allowed 90 day entry. The one year is how long you may come/go using that visa for up to 90 day entries.

Great thanks, so from what you said I take it that I'l just report to immigration in BKK and pay the extension fee every 90 days for a year.. Probably cheaper than leaving.

Many thanks for the information.

For the 3rd time you can only do that with paperwork from school that would allow an extension of stay and so far you have not indicated you have any such paperwork. Are you actually in a formal education situation and can they provide the required paperwork?

Yes, I have the paperwork for a 12 month ED Visa from my school which I intend to take to Malaysia next week and ask for a multi entry.

There is no paperwork specific for a 12 month ED visa and doubt you will obtain such a visa in Malaysia. Where are you now?

The paper work has been addressed for Malaysia, the Thai Embassy in KL. I'm in Bangkok. I've spoken to a heap of people who attend my school who have all gone to Maylasia to get their 12 month ED Visa after being given the paper work from the school, some of whom got multi entry and some got single.

Do not believe a multi entry will be issued - and if you qualify for extension it would not be required as you can use re-entry permits for travel. Are you sure the others received a multi entry from KL? In UK or home country it is more likely to be available but unless Malaysian suspect only single entry will be an option. Please let us know if you do obtain and type of school as will be helpful. But as said all you really need is single entry if you can qualify for extensions of stay.

If the multi entry is not given and I end up with a single entry, are re-entry permits easy enough? I'm assuming they just allow you to leave and return on the same single entry ED Visa as you originally entered on...

Re-entry permits are easy to get and cost 1000 for a single entry and 3800 for multiple entries, however they are only valid as long as your permission to stay (the date your visa or extension runs out).
