January 8, 201313 yr DH parked his scooter with a bunch of other bikes othe street outside immigration this morning around 11, not noticing that it was a no parking zone. When he came out, a BIB was just sticking a white piece of paper on his bike, which already was chained, along with some others. He doesn't speak any Thai yet, but made it clear this was his bike. The officer took the paper off, unchained the bike, and wrote a ticket. He did not ask to see a license, which is great since we don't have them yet (he was at immigration getting a certificate of residence to get a license). So where do we go to pay and how much should it be? Can I go or does he have to go? Will he get in trouble at the police station when they see that he only has a US license and we have been here over 3 months? Thanks for any help you can give!
January 8, 201313 yr Author Oh I forgot to add the cop didn't speak any English so my husband couldn't ask questions, but the cop did point to his watch, so we are thinking maybe it was a zone where you can't park at certain times?
January 8, 201313 yr See my thread about getting a parking ticket. Make sure to read it to the last post.

Go with the ticket to the policestation on the Ping river, near the Wararotmarket and pay the fine(200 or 400 bath)They don't ask for a driverslicense.
January 8, 201313 yr >> Will he get in trouble at the police station when they see that he only has a US license and we have been here over 3 months? No. They really don't care. I drove my motorbike for 2-3 years on a US license (getting stopped several times for no helmet). They just take the license, in hopes that you will come down to pay the fine and get it back. They don't even check to see if the license is valid for the type of vehicle you are driving, nor if the license is expired. As other's said, go pay the fine down by Warrorot market. Fairly simple and the police there speak a bit of English (not that it matters). Be respectful to them and they will be very nice and friendly in response. One strange thing I have found was that until I got my Thai license, it was impossible for me to "pay on the spot". Now that I show a Thai license instead of a US license, they are much more willing to accept the "pay on the spot - baht" folded up around my license like this: -Mestizo
January 8, 201313 yr Should have given the cop 200 baht end of story Doesn't work for parking tickets.
January 9, 201313 yr I wouldn't stress over not having a license yet, op. If they do ask you'll just be fined another 200-400 baht as opposed to anything heavy like what'd happen in the West.
January 9, 201313 yr Did they actually take anything from you? IE your license or your passport? If they didn't, don't even bother paying the ticket.
January 9, 201313 yr stick a cop who doesn't speak English over at immigration. phenomenal idea. Sent from my K-TOUCH W806 using Thaivisa Connect App
January 9, 201313 yr I went to the same police station. Fine was 400 Baht but the officer said "Can discount ...!!!" Fine now 200 Baht. Amazing Thailand.
