PATTAYA:--Two drivers were injured and two pick-ups were damaged after a hydrogen cylinder being carried on the back of a pick-up exploded and caught fire on Tuesday afternoon.

Just after 2.30pm Fire Rescue Units were called to the Sukhumvit Road in Central Pattaya outside the Pretty Spa Shop and next to the overpass leading to Highway 7 to deal with the fire which had engulfed a Black Isuzu D-Max. It’s driver, Khun Somporn aged 41, was able to escape just in-time but did sustain burn injuries to his right leg.

What do people use hydrogen for in central Pattaya

The article says the guy was a welder, there is a form of welding which uses hydrogen as a fuel, but cant see him doing that, I wonder if this is a "translation thing" and reality its was an acetylene cyclinder ?....also it says the valve on the cylinder "fell off"....valves on cylinder's just dont "fall off".....if there is no valves guard on the cylinder, valves can be knocked off...so one could suppose the cylinder was being transported vertically, not secured, no valve guard and the cylinder fell over and the valve was knocked off...and the result we can see from the photo's

Once again superb/concise factual copy from P1...rolleyes.gif

they use hydrogen to try and blow themselves up canuckamuck?

soutpeel was probably right imho as a acetylene bottle rolling around in the back of

a truck could knock the valve off and whammo an ignition point and up she goes?

but normally if the bottle was full it would take off like a missile

i have seen this personally happen and no not my doing!

Atomic hydrogen welding also is known as arc-atom welding and Langmuir welding. This type of arc welding produces an arc between a pair of tungsten electrodes in a hydrogen atmosphere. An atomic hydrogen welding torch produces a flame up to 4,000 degrees C and can weld tungsten.

Hydrogen Tank Explodes on Sukhumvit Road

h1.jpg

PATTAYA:--Not much was left of a welders truck transporting a tank of hydrogen which somehow caught fire on the main Pattaya Road

A leaking valve on a Hydrogen welding tank was blamed for the inferno that engulfed the truck in which it was being transported, and nearly killed the driver on Tuesday

Heading down the Sukhumvit in Pattaya, the truck was transporting a tank of Hydrogen, one of the most volatile of gases, when, according to reports, the valve control either burst or the tank was insecure in the vehicle, causing the valve to open. Either way, the result was a spectacle seen for a huge distance along the busy main road and caused long tailbacks as Fire authorities attempted to keep it under control.
