Stwc 95 Course In Thailand ,, Anyone Done It?

Hi, I did my FOET offshore survival here in LOS at the Falck Nutec facility and was happy enough with the quality of training given but I'm considering going and doing the STWC95 basic training course here too in view of possible future requirements in relation to my work, I see a couple of places advertised, both advertising to be MCA approved but with greatly differing costs between both courses that describe near identical course content which makes me wonder about the validity of the approval,, so I'm just wondering whether anyone has completed any of those courses here in LOS ??

any recommendations greatly appreciated

Thanks

If I remember correctly Stwc 95 is geared towards Marine crew, ie AB's, Masters, chief's, engine room crew and if you have done your BOSIET/FOET, you have already exceeded the training requirements of STWC 95.

On the cost, one assumes the Stwc 95 training is cheaper than the BOSIET/FOET ? would guess this is to do with OPITO who dictates the cost of the BOSIET

Basically the intent STWC-95 is for marine crew working vessels, while BOSIET/FOET covers working offshore irrespective of whether a fixed or floating installations, therefore STWC-95 may not be accepted as offshore training if you were working on fixed faclities, ie platforms...

If you have your FOET, I wouldnt bother with STWC-95, unless a company specifically states they will not accept your FOET.

hope this helps

Warning

I presume you have checked with the Government Marine Agencies of your country concerning validity

Because i did research myself & Thai courses arnt recognised in Auss Their are only 6 countries for Auss

All other countries are recognised by maybe 24

As an offshore survey rep part of my job is ensuring that all training and Certs are in date. I will only accept STWC 95 from marine crew and not anyone actually involved in the survey work. I look at it that if they are involved in Oil/Gas survey or construction then they need an OPITO recognised certification.

All the above answers are correct....If you are Aus, only do in Singapore with the Aus recognised establishments.

DO NOT, do in Thailand or Phillipines!!!! you will be wasting your money.....And dont bother doing it if you are not on a vessel....

The usual argument around the STWC 95 vs BOSIET thing revolves around whether someone has a seamans book, ie someone who is not marine crew but they have managed to get themselves a seaman's book, they use this to infer that they can have STWC-95 as opposed to a full BOSIET because it cost less money to aquire than a BOSIET

Currently where I am working now there is a push even for marine crew for everyone to have a BOSIET to close this "loophole" at the end of the day it all depends on what the individual operators will accept or not...

Are you referring to the Australian equivalency of STWC95 certification? I understand that there are quite strict limitations on where Australians or marine crew working in Australian waters can get their marine crew certification.

I have worked offshore Australia with the OPITO approved BOSIET/HUET certification obtained from Thailand branch of Falck Nutec in Samut Prakan that the OP refers to.

Generally speaking, any OPITO approved accreditation is globally recognized with the main caveats being the occasional local or operators requirement to refresh after 3-years versus the OPITO standard of 4-year validity. There's also variants in the degree of training with the 'tropical' endorsement not being globally acceptable, ie. in the North Sea sector.

Otherwise, with regard to to the OP and in agreement with Soutpeel, the STWC95 would be overkill.

All 100% correct and just to add on a BOSIET-T not being acceptable in the North sea makes perfect sense, the water is a lot colder...LOL

BOSIET-T training doesnt cover survival suit and a few other things

My answer to the STWC is that at any time the survey crew may be needed to go to a platform to perform some task for the oil company therefore BOISET is required. There is one UK survey company who own their own vessels and sign everyone on as marine crew, they got very upset when we insisted on BOISET for any member of the survey crew.

Thanks for the replies guys, but I'm aware of the difference in requirement between the boiset course and the stwc95, as said I have my boiset or FOET rather, which I do require for work, more so to be able to travel offshore on the chopper,, the STWC95 I'm expecting the company to be implementing for the position I hold later this year or next year,, although I stand to be corrected I don't think an STWC95 only will permit me to travel offshore in the chopper since I don't think there's helicopter evac simulation in the course content unless its changed as I actually did the STWC 95 many moons back when I went to college to do the navigational tickets,, but I now need to renew the course,, the requirement for the STWC 95 course by the company is that it's MCA approved, as said in the original post,, both companies advertised mention that they have MCA approval, however one costs over 1000 USD whilst the other costs nearly half of that hence my suspicions and query for feedback or reccomendations from anyone

Thanks again guys

I do know with OPITO that their web site lists all the accredited training centres, does the MCA not to this?

Found this

http://www.dft.gov.uk/mca/mca_approved_training_centres_-_06.09.12.pdf

No mention of any companies in Thailand
