We are looking to take a short trip maybe a couple weeks Bangkok to Ho Chi MInh and return. Do we need any special visa's? We have Canadian passports.

I'm assuming you don't live in Thailand, you can enter Thailand visa free for the duration of your visit but you will require a visa for Vietnam.

You can either apply for a Vietnamese visa in your country of residence http://www.vietem-ca.com/html/service.html or in Bangkok, that would mean being without your passport for a couple of days, and a couple of hours wasted in the Vietnam Embsassy.
