Jomtien Soi 5 Protest at Pattaya City Hall

PATTAYA:--A group of Business Operators held a small protest in the grounds of Pattaya City Hall on Tuesday and requested the assistance of Pattaya’s Mayor to deal with issues they are currently experiencing with Pattaya City Hall Security Officers who, the group claim, are unfairly fining businesses on a daily basis in the area and are not visiting other areas where similar offences are being committed.

Khun Itipon, the Mayor of Pattaya, met with the group from Jomtien Beach Soi 5 who claim that, on a daily basis, a group of these security officers, under instruction from the acting head of the unit, are issuing fine notices to business operators and street vendors located along the street for placing tables, chairs and street signs on public road. The fines are 1,000 Baht each.

I saw them again today. A group of security officers in a truck, on motorbikes and a golf cart going up and down the Soi.

Same same on Soi 7.

A shame these really. These businesses starve in the low season. Spreading a few tables and chairs out on the Soi for the overflow in high season seems reasonable.

I believe these same security officers rent the public streets to vendors all over town.

Wonder why Soi 5 & 7 are different?
