Anyone organising a Burns Supper this year or will it just be haggis, neeps 'n tatties on the menu at a few select venues?

Robbie and Jean were family but no way I'll eat haggis I'd lift ma kilt for neeps and tatties but!

A Robbie Burns supper is a great idea. I have been to one in Shefield and it was all of fun and listening to the poems.

Beware.... On one trip (to Italy, not LOS, admittedly), my iPod earphones wire came loose in my bag and wrapped round or at least lay near the haggis.... It all made a very attractive x-ray pic....Gatwick security area came to a standstill, and the guys with MP5s seemed to take a lot of interest in me.

Scotland does not have a franchise on Burn night. It is going on in many parts of the world. A great way to celebrate. He died at age of 28 after publishing a complete book of great poems. Ode to the haggis is one of the best. Burns had lived a life of a 60 year old when he died. Sheffield was as close as I was working on that Feb. night. It was an enjoyable evening but I felt like hell the next day. It was the haggis that caused the hangover and I shall leave it off at my next Burns party menu. A shortage of sheep stomachs in Thailand is a problem. Maybe you could substitute a buffalo stomach and with enough single malt scotch you might not know the difference.

I agree the Robert Burns was a great poet. And it doesn't make him any less great that he died at the age of 37.

Been to lots of Burns suppers and in many countries and one that I really enjoyed/remember was in a certain West African venue where the 3 guest speakers were the British,American and Russian Ambassadors....Great night ....the way life should be.....

When I was at primary school we were proudly informed of how internationally recognized the works of Rabbie Burns for and wait for it......even the Russians had Burns' Suppers!!!

That was back in the day of Reds Under The Bed scary Russians will kill us all / nuclear war blah blah. We were all a bit amazed, however when we were told the Russians particularly appreciated this quote.....

"A Man's A Man For A' That"

It kind of made sense why they would appreciate that.......so we were taught to be appreciate how International Burns was, our teachers were very wise. I apply that phrase to my life everywhere I travel.

The Pub on Huay Kaew Rd organised a Burns Supper a few years ago, complete with Andrew McReady the Tennessee piper, Haggis bought in Rimping (yes, they really had it) and Adam Flinn as the Ulster Scots MC. I don't know that they ever tried it again! As a Welshman I'd love to give it a go but I'd need lots of guidance from those 'in the know'!

Chas At Tuskers organized something similar a few years back, it wasn't a bad night but his homemade haggis was without a shadow of a doubt the worst I've ever tasted!

Could it be made with a pork stomach and just call it hoggis?
