Anyone From The Regiment,or American/aussie Special Forces On Here?

Is there any other Special Forces,or Ex-Special Forces personnel on here,I spent many years in Hereford myself?I know that the Thai Forces have a Navy SEAL branch, obviously taken from the American Military,as I've met some of them down in Phuket and Phang Nga before on exercises.

I was invited to go scuba diving with them but unfortunately I was leaving the next day, when the invitation was extended to me for, so didn't have time.A great shame and something I've always regretted.

I just wondered if there's any bars or hangouts around Bangkok or Phuket to meet similar minded people and have a chat, shoot the breeze as they say?Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

About the VFW -- the Veterans of Foreign Wars is a long standing association of U.S. Military Veterans - who have 'clubs' all over the USA. The VFW functions as a gathering place for Vets - many social functions and as you might expect a great 'Watering Hole'... The VFW in Pattaya is just another Chapter available for Vets in Thailand... I suspect that there are other VFWs in major towns and cities in Thailand.... http://www.vfwpost9876.com/

Do you have to provide evidence of your service to drink there? Many Pattaya commandos were in units so secret that they are allowed to boast about it in bars, but have no official records. ph34r.png

I know what you mean... In answer to your question... I don't know... I won't be in Thailand until about May... I'll ask my friend Reed who is a VFW member in Pattaya... And I know 2-3 other guys who are members too. I posted the weblink - perhaps it can be found there.

BTW - When I get there I'm going to visit my old SF Camp up in the Phu Phan area on the way to Sakon Nakhon in the Issan area (I recently found it on Google Earth).

The meetings are held at the Hogs breath saloon on Soi Batman. Anyone can go to the bar. If you want to be a member of the post or the VFW bring your DD214. I think you can get them on line now. The VFW is for American Veterans who have served in a foreign combat zone. Simply being in the US military is not sufficient. If you are a U.S. citizen who has served honorably in the Armed Forces and has served in an overseas conflict, you are eligible to become a member of the VFW

Not everyone would think that was funny.

OH ... I don't know ... I smiled ... biggrin.png

.

You are probably not an American veteran of a foreign war.

no but I am a veteran of a "foreign war" and had two good friends killed in action and see a few others killed...wink.png

I found the comment quite funny...

Not surprising.

Not surprising.

And why would that be ?

Same thing I said in the other post because, "You are probably not an American veteran of a foreign war." I did notice at meetings of the VFW there was very little mocking of veterans whatever the branch of service.

I can't speak for all VFWs or the one in Pattaya... But when it comes to sharing a drink at the bar - I believe Activity Military and Military Veterans from other countries would be welcome to have a drink and some good conversation with the VFW Members..

however as a matter of fact you exclude other certain other "verterans" "Simply being in the US military is not sufficient. If you are a U.S. citizen who has served honorably in the Armed Forces and has served in an overseas conflict, you are eligible to become a member of the VFW"

so you may not mock them them, you just exclude them thumbsup.gif

OP in Pattaya there is Tropical Berts on Soi 6 which is the venue for the Thailand Branch of The Royal British Legion, I only advise you to attend if you are NOT a walt, otherwise you will be quickly outed.

Edited to add

Unlike what has been posted about VFW all are welcome.

Er no... per the other members post said anyone can come to the bar and have a drink and chat with the members. VFW membership is open only to Americans who are veterans of a foreign war. Your comment is not surprising though.smile.png
