2-Day Overstay At Don Muang Airport

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Am booking onward tickets from Thailand and contemplating a two-day overstay, based on stuff i've read on this forum and others about there being a good chance of leniency - ie no fine! - for short-term overstayers.

Is this rumour exaggerated? I'm leaving from Bangkok Don Muang (i think) and any recent reports of overstaying at this or any other airport would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Marko

Normally a two day overstay will attract a fine of 1,000 baht. Only if less than two days from an airport is the fine normally not collected.

There is no fine for a 24 hour or less overstay. Any over that is 500 baht per day including the first day meaning 1000 baht for 2 days.

You could apply for a 7 day extension at immigration for a fee of 1900 baht.

Hi,

ok so our visa expires on the 9th of Feb, but we can't depart until the 11th.

So, this would be a max of <48hrs overstay.

Would this attract a 1000 B overstay fine?

We are not too sure if we should go and pay 1900 B for the 7 day overstay pass, or just pay the fine on departure, we intend to return with a new 12 month B visa after around 3 months back home, so we don't want any sort of marks against our name in the immigration books, if there is such a thing...

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Yes you most likely will be called aside to pay 1,000 baht and have a stamp placed in your passport. Up until this time there has never been a problem later obtaining visas as payment is the end of the overstay situation. But the safe thing is to either make a border crossing for a new visa exempt entry or apply for extension of stay providing 7 more days as any police/accident type incident while on overstay can be more serious.

yes, you would be fined 1,000 baht a person.

So far overstay is no problem getting a new visa and returning. Best thing is of course always to stay legal.
