Cheapest Calls To Thailand From Uk ?

hi all,

my wife is currently using skype to call family on theyre mobiles in thailand . i dont think skype is as cheap anymore, my wife does like to talk a lot ( dont they all rolleyes.gif ) she is currently using around £20-25 a month via skype.

she also has a contract phone on 3 network and im wondering would it be better for her to use her contract phone number and use a cheap call number from it or stick with skype. i have an o2 mobile pay as you go and also we have a virgin media home telephone which we can use.

which would work out the cheapest, as i say , skype is too expensive and maybe there is a better option for us ?

advice please, thanks in advance

If I cannot use free Skype, this is my favorite for calls to DE (maybe could be yours) -->

http://www.nonoh.net/free.html

First you buy a credit - visa card is accepted. At the same moment you have got some months for free calls to the UK. When these free calls have expired after some months your credit is eaten step by step at low rates. I can confirm this. The connection is much better then those of expensive TOT, at least here in the remote Mae Hong Son Province.

And then it starts reiterating -->

Dear ...XYZ

You've run out of Freedays, and you won't be able to make FREE calls.

This means you can now use your remaining Nonoh credit for calls at very low rates.

To find out which tariffs will be charged when you've run out of Freedays, visit this (website)

Once you've used up your credit, you will receive new Freedays with your next purchase. Simply login on the website with your user name: ...XYZ and click "buy" to buy new Freedays.

Best regards,

Nonoh customer service

I have an O2 pay as you go, I have a 'calls free' number that I get 50 minutes of free calls for every 10 gbp I top up during the designated month......the number is that of my wifes mobile in Thailand......I can use the top up value as I wish, calls, texts, internet, whatever, or it just piles up until one month I forget to top up!! smile.png if I top up 15 gbp I get 100 minutes free....just the way it seems to work......I just find this method very easy no messing around.

Skype subscriptions are very good. I pay 3500bht a year. Call lots of countries. Including Landline and some mobiles, 6 hrs a day max usage. Which is tons. I have it setup on my phone and use it for call forwarding wen im out. Connections are much better than other services But that depends on the recpients sim/tariff. Imo the best way. Also my 3 network sim gives free skype gsm access so she can chat all day. Hurray!

I use Local Phone. They allocate a Uk based number for your contact which you can call from your Mobile using free or inclusive minutes if you have them.

The account is then deducted at 0.9p per minute plus Vat so just over penny a minute.

Yes you can get "slightly" cheaper using a landline but you always have that connection charge. Ring your wife or girl and they dont answer and you're getting charged around 13p for nothing...........

Local Phone also brilliant for sending online text messages to Thailand (receiver assumes its coming from your normal mobile) for just 2p a text.......

If anyone wants details I can refer you for which I get a few bob, or you can just Google them.....

Is your wife on a Skype prepaid Country to Country subscription plan - U.K. to Thailand? You may want to Check her Skype account on line to see. Country to country subscription plans are much cheaper than just paying into a prepaid general use fund - Skypes' prepaid Credit plan.

Here are the rates from the U.S. to Thailand --- I suspect U.K. rates to Thailand would be about the same per minute.

(Sorry I don't have these in Pound Sterling).

SKYPE ... U.S. to Thailand - mobile / land line calls and SMS

http://www.skype.com/en/rates/?currency=USD&source=account

(This will require a log in to the account)

60 min per month 3¢/min $1.79/month

120 min per month 2.8¢/min $3.39/month

400 min per month 2.2¢/min $8.99/month

Unlimited World unlimited calls $13.99/month

Unlimited World incl. China Calls are unlimited$21.99/month

************************************************

One can also buy a prepaid Credit and use it for calling mobile phones, land lines and SMS

in allocations of $10.00 and $25.00 ... BUT the rate of Draw Down for each minute or SMS is

much greater than the Country to Country subscription plan above.
