Tourist Visa Extension

Featured Replies

Hello. I dont wanna go home, its cold and gray there. I got a 60 day visa at the Thai Consulate in Boston Massachusetts (USA). Got a 28 day extension at the Chiang Mai immigration office. What now? Will Chjang Mai give me another extension? Can I go to Laos, fly back and get 30 days?Visa run to Myanmar? Any advice would be appreacated.I am 62 and shoveling snow just ain't as much fun as it usta be. Thanks. R. Mac

Immigration will give you 7 days to leave the country.

Leaving and return by air will get you 30 days.

Return by land will get you 15 days.

Why not go to a Thai Consulate in a neighbouring Country and get another Tourist Visa.

Maybe even a double Tourist Visa.

Vientienne Laos would be your best bet.

As said go to neighboring Laos, get 60 day double entry, each entry can be extended by 30 days giving you a total of nearly 6 months.

If you can put 800k in bank here, or prove income of 65k per month by Embassy letter, you would also have one year extensions of stay options.

For a tourist visa in Vientiane you can fly from CM on Nok Air to Udon Thani and then it's about one hour to the bridge in Nong Kai.

I have a friend that is in the same situation. He is from the U.S. has a 60 day tourist visa and wants to extend it for a few months. Is there any problems in switching it from a tourist visa to a retirement visa? He is over 50, has a Thai bank account, passport pictures, letter from embassy for income and copies of passport. Any extra things needed to do to switch to the retirement visa?

With 15 days or more remaining he can convert to a new 90 day non immigrant entry at most immigration offices (always at Bangkok if another can not do) and then during last 30 days of that stay extend normally for retirement. Financial proof will be required both times but for conversion there is no requirement for bank account money to be in account for a set period of time.

ditto

Would that be a one year multiple entry visa or just for 90 days?

That would be for a 1 year extension of stay.

During that year if one wishes to leave you must get a re-entry permit from immigrations or your extension is void.

1000 baht for single re-entry, 3800 for multiple re-entry.

Also during the extension one must report their address to immigrations every 90 days.

The visa would be single stay of 90 days which you then extend during the last 30 days for the normal one year extension of stay. Cost is 2,000 baht for the visa conversion stage and the normal 1,900 baht for the extension of stay.

i am not an expert but before you go to laos embassy you may need to buy a airline ticket out of thailand otherwise you may not get a visa at all.

Have not seen any such report for first world travelers. Yes this may be the case anywhere so some may be asked.
