Next year I'm off to Vietnam. What are the trains like? Good spots for motorbiking?

Comes to Thailand for a holiday after saving his hard earned money for months. Spent his time back working in Australia posting on here what a Thai expert he is. Arrives meets up with his "girlfriend" and starts to whine. Thailand is boring, then begins to spend more time on here than he does traveling in his holiday destination.

Culminating now with vicious attacks on various posters here. What a very strange guy you are, Susan/Harris/Khaosok/Rocky boy. Too weird and strange for me.

He's going to Vietnam because he heard it's even cheaper than Thailand and because he can't afford Thailand anymore.

Trains...

There is essentially one train line running north to south. The trains running on it (Hanoi to Saigon) go under the name "Re-Unification Express".

The trains stop in most major towns and while being basic are good for a daylight trip up to say 8 hours sitting up.

Hanoi to Saigon is about 35 hours and there are basic sleepers.

If the train is booked out for a particular segment there are always buses but more often than not they are sleeper buses running overnight.

I'm not into motorbikes (wish I was) but the road between Da Nang and Hue is famous for the Hai Van Pass.

Enjoy the food. It's fantastic and accommodation standards are very good.

If the trains aren't LB friendly, then what's your Plan B?

I think he's been here as a tourist, but definitely needs to google for information. The main problem is the constant assuming about others he knows nothing about besides what we've said ourselves. As far as Vietnam, it was nice visiting there with my girlfriend last year, and I will return someday to see more of it, especially the south and coast.

Went to Hanoi, visited Halong Bay, Ninh Binh. Not about favorite, as they all were nice, especially the food and coffee. Markets like Thailand, friendly people. Halong Bay was dirty instead of what's seen in advertising. Caves there were nice. Scenery like Thailand.
