February 19, 201313 yr Scores killed in series of Baghdad car bombings < br /> 2013-02-19 11:53:02 GMT+7 (ICT) BAGHDAD, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) -- A series of bombings in several neighborhoods in Baghdad killed dozens of people on Sunday, local authorities said. At least 20 people were killed and scores of others injured when a series of car bomb explosions targeted a number of areas in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, including busy outdoor markets. Most of the targets were reportedly Shia areas. Local media reported nine car bombs took place, with explosions being heard in the Ourfally, Kiyara, and Falah Street neighborhoods of Sadir City, including near the chickens market. Sadir City is an eastern suburb of Baghdad. In addition, other blasts were reported in al-Amin, Habibiya and Kamaliya, as well as a popular market in northeastern Baghdad's Husseiniya area. The United Nations (UN) strongly condemned the bombings, expressing concern as innocent civilians carrying out their daily routines fell victims of the attacks. Martin Kobler, the Secretary-General's Special Representative and head of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), said "nothing can justify these terrorist attacks," calling on Iraqi leaders to have the "responsibility to stand up against these atrocious crimes targeting the social fabric of the country." -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2013-02-19
