What Does "alley Eee Nia" Mean?

Hi,

I was just wondering what "Alley ee nia" means. I hear that quite a lot from female speakers who put this structure at the end of a sentence.

Would it means "Whatever" or "etc."?

I guessing alley is allay/a rai = what

ee I guess is the way to address a female as scum/beneath you/ peasant but said jokingly among friends. i/aye to say to a man instead of khun/pee/nong.

And nia I hear that said instead or nee/annee here/this.

What do you mean? What is it? A lot would depend on the tone of voice, volume and situation. It could be a simple question or maybe a little accusatory or worse. I don't want to guess who is saying it and in what kind of setting you might be finding yourself in.wink.png

I assume what you're hearing is really อะไรยังเนียะ (aray yang nia) or one of its many variations.

What it means is "and so forth," "etc." "you know..." and the like. Very, very common phrase to end spoken sentences with.

Of course there is also “ee yang” but that is strictly Isaan.wink.png

Wouldn't tell a northerner that!

They use something else in our village but there is a lot of variety out there. There are even several Isaan villages in our neighborhood outside Chiang Rai. After 30 years in Bangkok I’m strictly a Central Thai speaker, however, even though I now live in Phaya Mengrai.wink.png

Thank you Ajaan. I think it's that because I also hear it on tv. So, it shouldn't be pejorative. I can't believe they throw "etc" at the end of sentences so frequently! I wanna say YUT!
