sawasdee all,

I am almost ready now to take my lady to the embassy to apply for a visitors visa to the uk.i would like to hear from any members who can advise me what are the likely questions that my lady will have to answer at her interview?

the other point that i would like some advice about is, i dont know if it is best to tell the embassy that we are engaged or just to say that we are boyfriend and girlfriend . we are engaged but perhaps it is best not to mention this.

also i already have the application form for the visa. one question on the form asks how long the lady will stay in the uk, 2 , 3 , or 6 months etc. i want to know that if she says that she is coming to uk for 2 months but then she ends up staying for 6 months then will this end up being a problem in the future if she applies again for a visitors visa? the reason why i ask this is because my lady is studying for a degree at college, we have a letter from the college to proove this, but the new term begins in June so if she says that she is only coming to uk for 2 months then she has the reason to return to thailand to study for college.but she would like to come to uk for 6 months and then go back to college in thailand the following june ( ie take a year out)

as ever any advice is well appreciated, take care all

I don't know about mentioning that you are engaged as it seems they can turn anything into a negative. If you are not married they doubt it's a real relationship, if married they doubt it's a genuine marriage, if engaged they might think she wants to come here to get married. They can think what they like then use that as an excuse (reason) to turn you down.

The questions seem like all the obvious ones but answering them correctly will not automatically mean a visa will be issued. When they asked my mrs how long she had known me she hesitated because not sure if he meant going out together or from the time we first met- marked down for this as an indicator she was lying!

Why do you want to go to UK, what does your husband do, how long know him, what are your long term plans etc seem the usual things. You would think that a visa for 6 months is just that and that it should not matter how long she stays within that period, but who knows in the topsy turvy world of the embassy.

If she says she wants to go for 2 months she may be asked to sign an undertaking to return at the end of the 2 months.

This undertaking is not enforceable in law, but not abiding by it could cause her serious problems for future applications as it will show that she is not trustworthy. Abiding by the undertaking will be a very positive factor for future applications.

If she is using her attendance at university as her reason to return, but is taking a year out, then a letter from the university confirming she will have a place when she returns is essential.

As to your other questions, tell the truth. If she tells even what may seem to be a small lie and then becomes inconsistent then this throws doubts on everything she says. Many engaged couples have successfully obtained visit visas, provided they have shown that the relationship and therefore the reason for the visit, is genuine.

So, tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Just go for the 2 months this time . It will fit into the university timetable and you will appear very credible . I would say you have a good chance but get all that documentation watertight.

yo mr silomfan, i totally agree with you , we have decided to tell the embassy that my lady will only come to uk for 2 months and that she will return to thailand in june to start the second year of her study for a degree. the problem being that if she came to uk for 6 months then she would have to wait untill june 2007 to restart her studies and we can not get a letter from her college to say that she has a place at college in 2007. so this month we are going to bangkok fully armed with our documents.

i assume that she will ot need the TB certificate for oly a 2 moth visit. i keep you informed about the outcome

thanks for all the advice

You are correct a TB certificate is only needed for a visa/stay over 6 months. BTW you know you better have your story watertight before she goes in. New rules. You will have to stand outside the embassy when she goes in. But as some have mentioned already. Tell the truth. Do not lie!!! You will get found out. Also if the missus doesn't know an answer to any of their questions. Tell her just to say i dont know. Do not try and make a story up. Because if they ask to interview you and the story does not match then you are screwed. Good luck anyway. For my wife it was really easy. But then we are married and both have reasons to return to LOS. Check all your info and check again. Dont think that its enough. It may not be. Best to provide more than enough.

Exactly. From a recent post on another forum from a guy whose girlfriend has just recieved a visit visa
they asked her what was my address in the UK and she said it was number 11, (my house number) but couldn't remember the rest.

sawasdee all,

well today we went to the embassy and we got a visitor visa. thank you very much to all of the lads who gave me good advice.

we arrived at the embassy at 5.30 am and there was about 10 people in front of us in the queue, by the time the embassy opened at 7.30 there must have been about 150 people waiting.i got ravaged by a load of mosquitoes. when the embassy opened i was asked to wait outside. i waited for about 45 minutes and then my lady reappeared with her visa ( we must collect the visa on tuesday)she was only asked about 10 questions.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS. my lady was in the embassy and she was speaking to another thai lady . the girl told my lady that she was from pattaya and that she had many boyfriends, she said that her boyfriend in england had sent her documents to apply for a visitor visa, she said that she did not want the visa , but she applied anyway, she told the eco that she was from pattaya . after she came out from her interview she was granted a visa and she came out and in front of everyone she said, the she was very dissapointed that she had a visa and did not want to come to england.

anyway, to all the lads who could not get their girls a visa, do not give up and keep trying, good luck to you all
