The wife failed the xray test in Aug 2012 but passed the sputum test in Oct and applied for settlement visa same month. She got her visa last week but not son (see other thread) and she plans to travel on 8 March.

Less than helpful friend has said she needs to do TB test again as it is more than 6 months since last one. Well by the date of travel I make it 5 months so assume a second TB test is not required.

Kevin1908, always great to see you posting here as you offer up some interesting issues.

Just some medical stuff ...

Testing sputum

A lab will use a microscope to look at any phlegm that you cough up.

This is called sputum. If there are TB germs in your sputum, you have
tuberculosis. If your sputum has no visible bacteria, it doesn’t always
mean you don’t have tuberculosis – but you are less likely to pass it on
to others.

Chest X-ray for tuberculosis

A chest x-ray may show damage in your lungs, but you might need
further tests to prove TB is the cause. A positive TB skin test and
X-ray showing lung damage is likely to be tuberculosis. But only the
sputum and culture tests can prove it.

I do wish the Thais would not put so much emphasis on what "friends" tell them.

I am currently trying to convince her that she must get transcripts of the interviews with her son and his dad and not listen to her "friend" who says that the Embassy wont give them.

Agreed a real pain in the neck. Ask your wife to get her friend to point out the UK on a world map, should address the creditability issue

... agreed.

The Thais do seem to give considerable weight to others opinion ... sometimes to our detriment.

blink.png ... I thought this thread was about the validity of the tuberculosis test?

Kevin1908 ... are you mixing up your threads?

Great link.

But there is some very subtle wording in that website's information ...

If the test is negative

If the test shows that you do not have infectious TB, the IOM

office will give you a certificate which you must submit with your visa

application form. The certificate remains valid for 6 months. You will

need to bring the certificate with you to the UK, and you should carry

it in your hand luggage, if you do not do this, you may be delayed on

arrival in the UK.

So, it's not the test, nor the test results that remain valid for 6 months ... but the test certificate.

Accordingly, factual information which the OP needs to discover from his wife is ...

Kevin1908 does your wife have the clearance certificate?
