Cm Pharmacy With Good Supplies Of Diabetic Insulin

Recommended Posts

I used to be able to rely on getting insulin from a particular pharmacy in Bangkok, but now I need to know if anyone recommends a well-managed pharmacy in Chiang Mai that has good stocks of insulin.

I did a search for threads with 'insulin', but only turned up discussions about diet drinks :)

Thanks,

pj

I've managed to avoid reaching type 2 status, but I'd suggest you try a Boots Pharmacy, and see what they suggest.

I think you might mean Type 1 (insulin dependent). I'm hoping to find a professional-grade pharmacist. There will be some around, and I'd appreciate hearing from anyone else who has found one.

The CMU Pharmacy school have a pharmacy on Suteph road. They charge full price without discounts but do not robbed. As this is the school the medicine is always well rotated and stored. They also of course do the same at Sripat Hospital but there is about a 10% markup and you have to see a doctor another 200baht or so.

check with Sriphat Medical Center pharmacy....

if you need a prescription, you should be able to see a doctor for a small fee...

Sriphat is located on Suthep Road and is part of CMU...it is located with the

large government hospital...

i get my insulin at the pharmacy located in the Suan Dok part of the hospital...

three vials cost me 477 baht...

you can google them for phone number and location...many of them speak

english...

I use Lantus witch I pay 1250 bath per pen and Apidra witch I pay 450 bath for at Chiang Mai Ram hospital, and I have a VIP medicine card witch gives me 10% discount.

Still it is very expensive compared to Denmark where I come from. :-(((((

So it cost's me about 4500 bath pr month.

So if anyone know where it can be bought cheaper please tell :-)

I really can't tell you any thing.

I rely on my doctor for that type of information. Dr. Morgan out towards Hang Dong. She either has it or knows where to get it. In one case she even got it from Bangkok but now sto9cks it. It is a buffered niacin and I am quite sure she makes a little money ion it but it is a guaranteed source with out going out of my way. You might want to ask your doctor.

Good luck.

I remember Lantus prices in Bangkok were also very high. Luckily I have a stock of Lantus to do me for a while. Now I need a supply of fast-acting 'daytime' insulin. Ideally Humulin, but Actrapid would do for now.

I'm going to try one or two of the places recommended today.

Good luck to the OP in managing his diabetes. Thailand has got to be the worst I've seen at managing diabetes. I read somewhere that about 50% of diabetic Thais have never been diagnosed or if they have, have not followed up on or even begun treatment. My partners mother was told by her Doctor at Sriphat that she was suffering from diabetes. I forget (and so does she!) what her blood glucose level was at the time - perhaps 190 or thereabouts. She was given a 3 month supply of pills; no follow up appointment, no dietary instructions/restrictions.....nothing. That was a few months ago. She ran out of pills many weeks ago. A Pharmacist friend told me that the majority of test equipment, strips, etc. here in C.M. are sold to farangs. Not many Thais even bother with it. I read in another thread that the strips for checking ketones are not even available here.

I'm in the UK presently and I met with my old GP last week to discuss a number of health issues, one of which was my high fasting blood glucose levels (I think I'm classified at pre-diabetic but am unsure at present). My endocrinologist in CM had told me to test test test and to record the results of postprandial 1 and 2 hour breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as my fasting levels, she submits me to an A1C test every six weeks until we know what the baseline is and what action might be needed. My UK GP thought all of this was quite amazing, she told me that in the UK they wouldn't test to that extent, even if the patient was on daily insulin. She went on to tell me that the results of a single A1C test would determine what action needed to be taken and that this would be followed up in 3 to 6 months. We were both quite shocked at each others approach. And BTW no, my GP was not about to hand out test strips either.

In my home country, the US, the medical management of diabetes is quite poor. Strokes, amputations, heart disease and death are all viewed as inevitable consequences of diabetes. This is due to the American Diabetes Association's very lax standards for blood sugar and A1c. Acceptable blood sugars according to the ADA are 180 post prandial and A1C of 7. These are way too high and lead to "diabetic complications".

Anyone who wants to know about and treat diabetes should google Dr. Richard K Bernstein and get his book. He is the lone exception to the USA's mismanagement of diabetes.

My sister in the states has diabetes and has been having memory problems lately a doctor said they were diabetes related. This was the first I had ever heard about memory lapses being related to diabetes.

I myself have it and just chalked up my memory lapses to senior moments. My sister is only 55

Lets see......"I really can't tell you anything"

But your GP does have a stock of buffered niacin to help raise HDL and lower LDL and she might make a little money on it

The CMU Pharmacy in Suthep Road is the default supplier for all kinds of medicine. You have no need to look anywhere else unless you need a doctor's advice, in which case Sripat.

They don't have insulin which is what the OP wants.

I doubt this. You may need a prescription but I am sure they will get it.

Hi everyone,

I am a type 1 diabetic currently in Chiang Mai and need to get more Novorapid and Levemir. I would rather Protaphane as it is cheaper, but a hospital in Bangkok said its not available in Thailand.

I went to Supeth Road and a pharmacy opposite the university could get me a box of 3 mL x 5 vials of novorapid for 1650 baht in 3 days. They said the levemir would need to be shipped from Bangkok so at that stage I didnt ask for the price. Can I trust this pharmacy i.e. not counterfeit, proper storage etc? It was next to Pharmachoice (pharmachoice said it would take 10 days and didn't really speak English well)

I could not locate the CMU pharmacy. Is it within the university faculty? I walked into the Sriphat clinic building and was a bit overwhelmed because there were no signs in English and I couldn't see a pharmacy in there.

I have diabetes but don't need insulin for it. I was wondering if there is any doctors that specialize in it as it affects my feet. vitamin B 12 helps but is there any thing else.

Of course there are doctors who specialize in management of diabetes. They're called endocrinologists.

Keeping your blood sugar under good control is the best thing for your feet.

I think hellodolly was looking for a recommendation by name of an English speaking, qualified specialist.

Managing blood sugar is easier said than done, and is best done in consultation with a doctor.

And that will do what for diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

If she didn't make money I would be looking for a new doctor.

As you say you don't know any thing that is why I was asking for a doctor who specializes in diabetes.

No I have the sugar under control I was fortunate my doctor caught it early and it was surprisingly easy for me to drop chocolatesad.png It is easily handeled with a pill after a meal. I have seen a dramatic drop in it since I started using a large dose of cinnamon with my breakfast cereal and a cinnamon capsule after other meals. I looked it up and found it was all good no side effects. Of course there will always be some one with a different metabolism than most.

But for the diabetic peripheral neuropathy. part of the disease I found a lot of information that was out of my league and I will pass it on to my doctor. she is a GP and can not be expected to know every thing. She at least will be able to evaluate the information.

I asked because I saw in a post where a poster went to the Ram for his diabeties I looked on the list of pinned topics and found nothing.

Can anyone help me with the above post? I need to order it tomorrow and it may take between 3-10 days.

Hello what is the name of the Pharmacy and where exactly is it? Is it one of the pharmacies recommended earlier in the thread across from the front enterence to Sriphat ? (2 pharmacies side by side, one has a large stock of home health supplies, wheelchairs, etc.)

BTW the CMU Pharmacy is on the same side of the street as CMU, Maharaj, Sriphat, etc but further up North? towards the direction of the mountains.
