Hi,

Next week I am due to extend my O Visa Hua Hin,first extension from 3 month Non O to 12 Month) based on marriage

By the time I go towards the end of next week I will have the required 400k in two Thai Accounts for the proscribed period (1 normal savings, 1 fixed deposit)

My question regards the 200k I have in the fixed deposit account? Will they except this? I have read somewhere that the seasoned money must be in 'non interest' accounts.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

Fixed Interest accounts are usually accepted by most Immigration Offices.

Being in two seperate accounts might confuse them but you should be OK

As long as it is a normal cash deposit account it should be accepted - what is not accepted are fund/stock type accounts - you must be able to obtain full cash back at any time to be acceptable - on normal bank FD accounts you can do that but lose interest.

I had 1.5 million baht in a fixed account and they turned me down. It sucked, because I had to buy a 60 day visa, went to Vientiene for a 90 day visa, and after 60 days apply for the based on marriage visa, and then return to immigration as normal after a month for the stamp. I own my condo free and clear and took my yellow book, and had money in another fixed account. They did not care, and put me through the ringer just to get back to a visa based on marriage to a Thai.

The """Rule""" is.....Fixed account does not count.

If you are lucky it will work, otherwise be prepared to do it all over again, unless this is your first.

That is unusual, which immigration office was this.

There was a post on here recently where a poster said he had been turned down at Immigration because he had 2 accounts. He was told the money must be in one account only.

Yes indeed. Accepting term deposits is not standard. I have read numerous posts on this very board in which persons were turned out.

The "rule" if there is one is standard bog no interest acct for all extensions.

I have yet to see any verified such report (although as with anything expect there are a few). In every case where details were provided it turned out to be a misunderstanding - other reasons involved - such as joint account or the account not being a cash account. People use the fixed deposit term loosely (including banks) but anything based on investment will not be accepted. Then there is always "When the moon is in the Seventh House And Jupiter aligns with Mars" factor.

I can confirm that Phuket Immigration is very reluctant of accepting fixed accounts for extensions based on marriage.

Most of the time ( > 75 % ) it is rejected.

Unless you have a officer which has a good day and is willing to do it.

Using multiple accounts is not a problem as long the seasoning is correct and both accounts are in your sole name.

I am due to renew my retirement extension but the money has only been seasoned 85 days.

Will they accept that I wonder?

Unlikely but no harm in trying.

All depends of the officer and his mood.

Everything is possible at the Immigration and i mean everything.

With 85 day you come time to short. You could overstay 5 days and then extend, when the money has been seasoned. Will cost you 2,500 baht.

Are you suggesting/encouraging him to overstay?

It might be what immigration will advise him. Best to talk to them first and then see what is possible.

(I did forgot about a 7 day "extension", which would be a better option).
