After less than six weeks my bungalow is almost complete.
Just the finishing and painting to be done. It’s forty square meters and built from old well seasoned hardwoods. The carpenters new what they were doing and have done a great job. I am undertaking the plumbing, wiring and internal fittings etc.
Have posted some pictures to show its position and the stunning views. The cost? way under 500,000B. Can’t wait to move in!

Your house and you will know better than me, that wood looks almost new, certainly the flooring does, or was it sanded down before being laid?

Nice view, where are you?

Yes all the timber was sanded down before building, and I agree it looks like new. Its in Phrae province and overlooks my young fruit farm.

First of all ... nice ... thumbsup.gif

But not worried about termites?

Looking at some of the footings, do my eyes deceive me and the posts are just being propped by some packing?

They do deceive you! The upright posts have been used before and have been cut differently. They sit on concrete cubes and will be tidied up later. We will spray the ground under the bungalow for termite protection every year or so. Most of the timber has had to be pre drilled as its so hard...Not so easy to eat!

Nice view.

As for termites....choose the right woods and no problems, no need to treat with poisons either.

We built a wood and stone bungalow few years ago, all hardwoods and the well known strong red hardwoods, beautiful grains and nothing ever touched them.

We live in a 14yo house with a lot of wood in it....untreated except for finishing and again, nothing touched by ants, but they are here as some softer woods have been chewed.
