April 2 deadline on new BMA governor's future

BANGKOK, March 18 – The Central Election Commission (EC) has until April 2 to announce its ruling on complaints against the Bangkok governor-elect, or it must let the winning candidate run the capital in parallel with the commission’s continued investigation.

Central election commissioner Sodsri Satayathum said Sunday that it would be almost impossible for the Central EC to discuss the complaints, submitted by the Bangkok Election Commission last Thursday, in its meeting tomorrow.

Democrat Party candidate Sukhumbhand Paribatra won the Bangkok gubernatorial election on March 3 and the Central EC has 30 days to officially endorse him as the new governor of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

Several persons have filed post-election complaints with the Bangkok EC, seeking to nullify the election results. Two of the complaints, already considered by the Bangkok election agency and submitted to the national Election Commission last Thursday, involves an allegation that Democrat MP Sirichoke Sopa posted a photo of a burning Bangkok street in the 2010 political crisis on a social media network, and a statement by marketing/public relations academic Seree Wongmontha discouraging people from voting for Mr Sukhumbhand’s arch rival.

Mrs Sodsri said a Central EC subcommittee must invite Mr Sukhumbhand, witnesses and other concerned persons for questioning before concluding to hand it over to the Central EC.

The process from the subcommittee’s first meeting should take at least two weeks, she said.

The agency's subcommittee on election administration is charged with announcing within 30 days after the March 3 election if the winning candidate, Mr Sukhumbhand, is entitled to run the BMA pending the agency's investigations of complaints against him.

EC secretary general Puchong Nutrawong said the Bangkok’s election agency's conclusions on complaints against Mr Sukhumbhand will not be ready for the Central EC’s discussion tomorrow. (MCOT online news)

Just wondering, did anyone raise a complaint about the doctored celebrity photos posted by red-shirt Pheu Thai candidate supporters, or was it judged a student-like prank like our jayboy may have committed while at Cambridge?

So if I get this right, showing what the PT storm troopers did in 2010 breaches election law? Is this some type of bar on the truth? Or just crass stupidity? Though it could be both I guess

When they wake up in the morning to when they lay their head on their pillow they are fools. Ask them how they sleep at night and they will tell you "On a very large bag of money thanks to the dumb smuck farmers we are ripping off"
