I wouldn't bet on anything coming of this! "To dream the impossible dream.... to take with your last ounce of taking". Coded message they want a bigger slice of the pie?

If this was for real, and tommorrow ALL gambling was stopped The BIB would have to lease out aircraft hangers, to house ALL the police that are sent to an inactive post.

Police Commander-in-Chief Pol. Gen. Adul Sangsingkaew said that he had ordered senior police officers across the country to crack down on

gambling dens and places of other "vices".

He said that if police in any area failed to comply with the order, senior police officers responsible for the area would be removed from

office.

The police chief's statement came one day after four senior Metropolitan police officers were removed from their posts following a crackdown on

gambling dens in areas under their responsibility.

Gambling is illegal in Buddhist-dominated Thailand. But underground gambling dens are known to be pervasive, and several high-ranking

government officials--as well as some political heavyweights-- own casinos at the borders with Cambodia and Myanmar.

What about the horse raes? Arent they legit and have gambling?

I was not “educated” in Thailand. Maybe that’s why this news leaves me with some stupid questions:

• I wonder if he would go that far to take away the underground lottery and football betting from,- guess who?
• What would a top cop have in mind if he talks about crack down on other vices? Are there any his colleagues are not involved in?
• And what the heck is this bull of removing cops from office with full salary?
• Why not deport all the crooks to Dubai and build a high fence around it?

As I said, maybe I’m too stupid…

Yes there is horse racing commonly know as "The Sport of Kings" and betting is legal.

King Rama V setup the 1st track in 1897 and are generally reserved for the High Society.

We should leave it at that.

Is it just me, or do these " no more casinos in Thailand" statements occur every few months, or on a shorter schedule when a big casino shows up in the news??

You are right, they play everywhere in Isaan. The Man in Brown, get their share and even play also.

I went once,

some years ago, to the Udon Thani Province Police Head Office and complained about a Policeman who costed me a lot money,

as he drove around with my GF in my absence and played High Bets at "High Low" dice Games.

That, that also developed in an affair, even from future and marriage was spoken, was a second problem.

Outcome in the Police Head Quarters, not much, whistle blowers, special Falang ones are not liked!

The Lady Officer at the Office, was very friendly,

she meant the General would be interested for sure, she had also an Ex Falang BF who cheated on her

and left her for a younger Pattaya Bar girl.

But she was wrong, the Big Boss not even wanted to meet me.

I shall complain at the Local Amphoe. , there was "my Policeman" attached.

A bit tricky, confusing situation all together.

"My Officer", had an older Thai GF, who was married to a Swiss, lived for years in the Swiss house, (the Swiss son said Papa to him)

and drove with the Swiss financed car and Motorbike.

No wonder, the women, his Falang Mia GF and my GF got also in more than one argument.

When I found all out, he had dumped my GF already! The money ran dry?

Some gambling in thailand is legal:Thai horse racing at the course and all the lotteries tickets that seem to be sold in abundance every where you go.

But,of course,the bookmakers and casinos make massive profits in the long run. Even if you are winning consistently they still love you because they know eventualy they will turn the tables and take you to the cleaners.

Its a matter of freedom of choice and self disciplin which is difficult to find in Thailand.

Gambling ,like prostitution, has always been around and always will be.

He added that gambling dens with imported European cars with a value of more than THB 5 million each parked outside were exempt from the crackdown.

Perhaps if the police chief wishes to embark on a moral crusade, he could start by cleaning up his own forces...... Sort of a " Cast the mote from thy own eye first" concept. Regarding this casino crusade, since the police are heavily involved in the casino business, his chances of success are small...

But no problem, this is just smoke and noise which will go away in a month... Until the next casino is discovered.....
