Planning To Study 1 Year In Chiang Mai. What About Chiang Mai University Program? Payap?

We are now planning a one to two year Thai language study program in Chiang Mai.

Would Chiang Mai University be a good choice?

Chiang Mai University's one year program looks good.

Does anyone have any thoughts about up-front tuition payment to this school?

Will Ed visa remain valid during entire year long period of study?

Can anyone offer further input about Thai language study at these two schools?

Thank you!

Thank you for the feedback.

I was hoping to hear that maybe the program was back on track and now a good choice for language study.

Too bad there does not seem to be such a thing as tuition insurance.

Strangely enough, during the past 2 or 3 days, the links that normally direct to the Language Institute's webpages do not seem to work.

5 or 6 days ago, the Language Institute was posting a schedule of its course offerings on their site which was available for all to see.

It would seem that their server is down.

But for how long?

Forget it, unless you are fluent in Thai. Please try Rajabat International College - half the students are from outside Thailand and everything is in English. I do some work with several of the universities - Thornburi in Lamphun are cool but in Thai (wife went there/taught there) Far Eastern has a great selection (son went there/I'm doing a short course there this week) but 99% Thai. Only Rajabat is operating as an international university in CM. They recruit students in Vietnam, China and Philippines.

Oh - wife teaches at Payap. It's international and very expensive

Phayap is a bit expensive by Thai standards, but not terribly expensive by western standards. Faculty is more variable in quality, both Thai and international faculty, than in western colleges. The International program, taught in English, is as international as it gets, students from around the globe. The Thai side is, well Thai and the interim president is a very proper old school Thai, far too proper for my tastes judging from my brief interaction with her, but maybe it was just my Hawaiian shirt. But all said and done, my daughter will be beginning her senior year at Payap and she has had a great college experience.
