April 3, 201313 yr Apologies if this is answered elsewhere - have found bits & pieces. I'm in Pattaya and have a laptop & want to connect to the internet. Been into Trumove (next to Tukcom) and their basic prepaid 'package' is 990 bht for the dongle then 399 bht/month for unlimited access - which is 427 bht once you've added tax. The service desk in Tukcom (1st floor, next to the stairs) gave a price of 1590 bht for a dongle. But what could I buy (where from and how much) that is more basic than this. I.e. a dongle and a simcard that you can topup from 7/11 when the credit runs out. I'm not a 24/7 internet user and if it costs 1bht/min that's fine for me. I'd appreciate any help.
April 3, 201313 yr Maybe best to go with an 850/2100 MHz 3G compatible aircard, a TrueMove H NetSIM 3G+ and a layered mobile data plan from TrueMove H? http://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/shopping/14 http://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/toppings/italk/entry/653 Note that you do not have to buy a TrueMove H branded air-card, just make sure you buy one which supports, at a minimum, 850/2100 MHz 3G.
April 3, 201313 yr Author Thanks for that lomatopo. A question if I may. On that first link, the 'TRUEMOVE H NETSIM 3G' for 99bht (http://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/product/detail/317). Managed to translate it. I'm correct in saying that 100MB download in 60 days and then it's finished. Then you dump that sim and buy another - or can you top it up. I guess not if it's working in this manner. Sorry for being thick - this is all new to me. 100MB doesn't sound a lot. Edited April 3, 201313 yr by Rigsby
April 3, 201313 yr Step 1.) Buy a USB air-card which supports, at a minimum, 850 MHz 3G. Step 2.) Buy a TrueMove H Net SIM 3G+ for 99 baht. Step 3.) Decide on a mobile data plan which you will layer on to your SIM. http://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/toppings/italk/entry/653 Step 4.) Add enough value (top-up) to your SIM to cover the cost of the mobile data plan you chose in Step 3, add enough to cover +7% VAT. Step 5.) Subscribe to the mobile data plan. Step 6.) Connect to the internet The TrueMove H Net SIM 3G+ comes with an introductory, complimentary data balance of 100 Mega-Bytes (over 30 or 60 days), but most people would subcribe to an additional mobile data plan, one which would recur every month assuming you have added enough money to the SIM to cover the recurring charge. April 3, 201313 yr Author That's absolutely brilliant lomatopo. Thanks very much. I understand it at last.
April 4, 201313 yr Author A friend of mine used to use True for mobile internet a couple of years ago. He still has the dongle, model no HUAWEI EC150. Googling it, it appears to be 800 Mhz. Would this work if I put a TrueMove H Net SIM in it or is 850Mhz the very minimum ?? (It would just save me around 1000bht that's the reason I ask). Thanks.
April 4, 201313 yr That won't work. That was for the old CAT/Hutch system. Your options are a new USB modem, a Smartphone that allows tethering and perhaps creates a WiFi Hotspot or a dedicated MiFi unit.
