Finding Refugee - 2004 Tsunami - Khao Lak, Thailand

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Back in 2004, my wife wanted to volunteer for the Tsunami relief effort and wound up in Khao Lak, Thailand. She happened upon a Christian relief group (she believes the name was Cha Loom) and aided them in relief efforts which took place roughly 1 week after the tsunami.

Amidst all of the horrors she witnessed there, she had one experience that especially eats at her day in and day out. While assisting in calming a group of about 20 children that did not know where their parents were or who they were, a Thai girl around 7 years old, darker complexion, shoulder length curly hair took to her.

That little girl was very confused and appeared to be suffering from a case of traumatic amnesia. She could not recall her name, her parents or anything about her past. My wife spent some time with her bringing whatever peace to a troubled mind that she could. She later returned to her hometown in Trang never to hear of this girl again. She is desperate to find out anything she can about this girl. Did she find any of her family? Is she OK and well today?

I post this here in the event someone can help fill in some of the blanks here. Maybe someone knows of the organization of which she joined; perhaps, someone knows just a small piece of the puzzle which would go a long way to figuring things out.

Gosh that's a long shot op. Are you asking us do we know a curly haired girl age about 16 now from Trang?

Firstly how big is Trang? I got no idea.

How bout does your wife have a photo? Could she go there, Trang and ask around?

Or perhaps hire a private investigator?

Ahh, sorry for the confusion, my wife is from Trang. The girl was from Khao Lak. Indeed it is a needle in a haystack; however, given how deeply rooted this in my wife, its worth it to ask.

My hope was that someone would recall the organization that she volunteered for, or themselves volunteer in that area for relief and maybe know a small detail that would give us a little more to go on.

Thanks you two for the replies and help. We will continue the hunt.

Very difficult but I wish your wife all the best and I hope one day she will receive news.

All I can add is the best of luck with it.
