I am looking for advise from one of these Mods or other knowledgeable individuals.

Almost two years ago an acquaintance of mine returned to the UK with his Thai wife (a 10 year marriage). His wife was given a 27? month spouse visa by the UK embassy in Bangkok. Clearly this initial visa is coming to an end.

The question I have been asked is what they do next to secure their continued residence in the UK?

I wish to provide solid advise to this couple but don't have the knowledge to do so.

If anyone could provide details (preferably in a check list formate) as to what steps this couple need to take to secure their future I would be obliged. The origin of any advise would of course be indicated by me as coming from TV.

Thank you all , in advance, for the assistance which I am sure will soon be made available.

Should any further information be required please PM me.

Thanks !

John

The next stage is Indefinite Leave to Remain; see here for full details of how to apply.

However, one of the requirements for this is showing that the applicants meets the knowledge of life and language in the UK requirement.

If your acquaintance's wife has not done this by the time her current visa expires she will not qualify for ILR. So she will need to apply for Further Leave to Remain until she has done so. Then she will be able to apply for ILR.
