Nice Ending To Hotel Overbooking

Hi. Just wanted to share a short story.

I had a 90 day visa hop to do at the weekend so wifey and I decided to make a weekend of it to Ranong with a couple of friends.

We prebooked a guesthouse and arrived Saturday afternoon only to find the two rooms reserved for us were occupied.

The hotel admitted their mistake, asked the reason for our visit and when they found it was for a border hop found us two nice chalets at the B.C. Badin right next to Immigration at the Andaman Club and paid half the cost! So we got the rooms for 600bht rather than the usual 1200.

After messing up it was nice that the original guesthouse took responsibility for their overbooking.

This was my first time using the Andaman Club and I have to say it was a very smooth experience so I would recommend to anyone.

I'd expect them to help you find a new place, but to pay half (or anything) goes beyond what I am used to in Thailand. Impressed.

Nice ending, or happy ending? whistling.gif

.

Is that a law pertaining to Thailand?

Do they buggery..... no they don't. Decent hotels will know in advance of your check in and maybe transfer you to a local arrangement. (especially if within the same group) you may well get a free dinner or couple of drinks but pay the stay? No way Jose. The terms are normally stated in their T & C.

Hotels generally have agreements with online agents that if they are overbooked they will find an equivalent or better room and the overbooked hotel will pay the difference if it is more expensive.

If you book directly with a hotel then you won't know what policy they operate but I'd expect the above to be the norm. But I have had guests from elsewhere at my door that have been overbooked and told to sort it out themselves.
