"no, Really - I (We) Don't Have Email". Say What?!?! No Email?

When I first fell off the boat in Sattahip Thailand, 1971-ish, I would have believed you if you had told me that you really do not have email.

But recently, I dropped off the boat for about the 5th time, over 40 years later, and now some guy named BOSCO keeps insisting he doesn't have email.

He says I should call him instead.

Call him? With my phone reception and the circus going on in his office where he can't hear squat?

I mean what kind of a fool does he take me for?

Does he think I dropped off the boat yesterday?

I just wanted to email BOSCO's manager and send him a big order.

This guy BOSCO is not the only one who "has no email".

Yes! Plenty of people here have no email, today.

Just bananas.

So why do guys insist they have no email when they know that we know that they DO?

Don't ask me for my email and I will tell you no lies?

Is that it?

SERIOUSLY, MEN.......

Why do some people here insist they have no email even while they are browsing their email???

Are they just too afraid of disappointing me to own up and say "screw you", I do not give out my email, or "sorry, screw you", it is our company policy not to give out our company email to company customers.

I mean, truly, BOSCO old buddy old pal,

I don't think I am as dumb as you take me for.

What is going on with all the Email Denial?

Any Ideas?

As for me, I don't think this is such an easy question for me to answer.

You are right, Vinny, it might be a language problem.

But in these cases, no.

I am only referring to cases including international retailers or people who speak English as a second language quite fluently, or fairly fluently.

But good question:

I do not know if the same dynamic operates when one asks a non-English speaker the same question, "what is your email address?", using Thai, for example.

In fact this scenario of suddenly not having an email address is quite different than is typical in other places.

In HK, China, or Taiwan, for example, people would look at you as truly quite mad if you tried to pretend you did not have a working valid email address.

Trying to operate in Greater China without a few email addresses would be madness for any company, and the companies make sure everyone has a working email address.

And we all know now that the language barrier is becoming much less of an obstacle as people such as Google make text correspondence readable in almost any language.

Sure, I grant you, texting someone in NAVAJO may not go over too well.

But who knows for sure until we try it?
