Finlander Dies While Thai GF Celebrates Songkran

A 73-year-old Finland man died alone in his Pattaya condominium while his 34-year-old girlfriend went back home to visit her family in Pitsanulok for Songkran. He died several days before his body was discovered, apparently from natural causes.

PATTAYA – April 18, 2013 [PDN]; at 10:30 a.m., a report of a foreigner dying of unknown causes was received by Pol. Capt. Phitak Nernsaeng, investigation officer, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province. The rescue officers of Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation were dispatched to the scene, along with police.

The body was found in room number 521/457 on the 14th floor of Niran condominium, central Pattaya, Moo 9 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

In the condominium, arriving officers found the corpse of Mr. Eino Olavi Ahlfors, age 73, from Finland. He was lying face up on the bed, wearing only underwear. The corpse was decaying, and gave off a very bad smell that permeated both inside and outside the room.

After inspecting the body, officers didn’t find any traces of him being beaten. They estimated that he had died between 3-5 days ago. His valuable assets were still on the table as usual. Police also found a lot of his medicine, including liquor and the Kamagra drug in gel form.

Police questioned the victim’s girlfriend, identified as Mrs. Natsina Duangsoongnern, age 34, from Tambon Thameunram, Amphur Wangthong, Pitsanulok province.

She said that she and Mr. Eino had been living together for 2 months. But on April 10, she went back to her home in Pitsanulok province to celebrate Songkran festival with her family.

She left her boyfriend to stay alone, but called him every day to talk to him. On April 13, she called him at 12 noon, and her boyfriend told her that he didn’t go out anywhere because he was sick.

But after April 13, whenever she called him, no one picked up the phone and she couldn’t contact him any more. So she thought that her boyfriend was going out with another woman while she was away.

Then on April 17, she came back at 8 p.m. When she went to see her boyfriend at the condo, she saw the light in the restroom was turned on, but the front door was locked from the inside. So she knocked on the door for more than 20 minutes, but no one opened the door.

I wonder if the number of days matched the departure date of his 34 year old GF? Silly me - yes - of course - natural causes, just like the continuing 'suicide' balcony jumpers.

It says she left on the 10th and he was dead maybe 3-5 days by the time his body was discovered on the 18th.

If those dates are correct then it seems she was away at the time of his death.

Many people were away for the 14th for songkran at home with parents and family and the 10th was a good day to leave.

Maybe it is natural causes but they have to mention liquor and kamagra but they do not mention what medicines they found? Could be heart meds.

Why not? The telephones and companies recorded the calls until 13.04.2012, that would be easy to determine. Unless you suggest that every day from 11.04.2012 on somebody went to the room of the dead man, and used his phone to talk to her. 4 days or 8 days are a big difference for the progress of decay, though.

Another quality news report from our friends at PDN - complete with pictures of the deceased with his underwear pulled down. We just need the rescue crew to make V-sign while smiling. Disgraceful lack of respect for dead farangs here. bah.gif

Just amazing. What a jaundiced view of the world. I assume you've had some pretty traumatic experiences with relationships with women that have left you this bitter. Once in awhile try to find good in others. It can make life, especially in a place like Thailand, an enjoyable experience.

I quite agree. Why doesn't he just come out and say it, he thinks the girlfriend is responsible for the old guy's demise. As you rightly say, a jaundiced view, if not of the world, certainly of Thailand. You should check out his daily posts on the Thailand news forum, more than 1,200 of them in 3 months, at least 95 % of them slagging off Thailand and all things Thai. He hasn't got a good word to say about the country or it's people. It gives many of us great entertainment reading them though!

73 v 34 = the boy done good, for however long he done. Rest in Peace buddy.

no answer = she thought he had another girlfriend. Thai values come to the fore...

That's all I got to say about that.

What has this got to do with "Thai values" ?

It's more to do with promiscuous "farang values".

Yeah, take everything he says with a pinch of salt and don't worry too much about his bitter viewpoint; this is the guy who has to spout his opinion on everything, no matter how wrong he usually is (he's a climate change denier which sums up his wisdom).

Check his life's memoirs he wrote in his profile for more pearls.

R.I.P. old Playboy.

Dear God - Please at least let someone pull my underwear up, before they take my last photo, if I should happen to die in a similar situation. If the door was not locked from the inside, I would have thought, that he had been receiving a b...j.. the last minutes of his life.

May be those who live in Condo's raise the issue with there management committees with a view of instructing "security" that they should only allow into the building those who have legit reasons, so in this case it would be the police, medical examiners, those removing the body, the press should be band from even entering the Condominium, let alone the deceased's apartment.

Same lack of respect from you though? So far no-one had mentioned that. Maybe out of respect?

Could you point out a link to a rescue crew making the V-sign and smiling whilst attending to a death? Very much doubt it.

Despicable showing a picture like that, hope his family take action against the PDN, however I'm guessing there is probably no restrictions against what a paper can publish in the LOS due to seeing what is posted every day.

RIP.

If he had a good loving family, they may also find it difficult to accept that he left them all behind and came to thailand to shack with a hooker 40+ years younger than him and all that mention of viagara and him being a playboy.

Yes there are no restrictions on the publishing of pics like this, like in most of the developing world. At least nowadays they are blurred..........didn`t use to be like that before,so I guess thats progress.

Oh, so let's stick our head in a bush and then the problem doesn't exist, right?

Disrespectful rescue crew has happened before, search for it yourself, I'm not your bell boy.

Yet if it were America, one would see multi million dollar claims of trespass and the resulting emotional distress.

There is always the chance that his family were well aware of what he was doing in Thailand, and then again all relationships have to start somewhere! But your point is taken

Absolutely no reason to show a half naked man on his bed, or to even mention any medication. Give the guy a little peace and respect. Almost every one of these type of articles, gives the impression that the deceased person was somehow responsible for his own death, because of some Medication. Dont we all take some kind of medication or drink a beer, or the very worst, even have a girl friend!

Also comments about the girl friends age, has nothing to do with why the person died!
