Transport Min on road show in Thailand's Northeast

BANGKOK, 22 April 2013(NNT) – The Transport Ministry is on a road show in the northeastern part of Thailand to clearly elucidate the government’s 2-trillion-baht infrastructure project to the people. The mega-project aims to uplift the country’s logistics system and connect Thailand to other ASEAN countries.

People have flocked to Thailand 2020 exhibition taking place in Nongkhai Province to give residents insight into the mega project. According to Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt, Nongkhai is a very important province as it connects Thailand to Laos and the southern part of China. He also said both the dual-track and high speed trains are necessary for the people and the country as a whole.

The minister further revealed that the government would spend 500 billion baht, accounting for 25 percent of its 2-trillion-baht budget, on infrastructures in the Northeast.

Meanwhile, Nongkhai Governor Wirat Limsuwat expressed his belief that the project would help boost the number of travelers in the province, which at present sees 2 million visitors and 3 billion baht in tourism revenue per year.
