BMA prompted against threats of possible attacks & natural disasters

BANGKOK, 23 April 2013 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is prompting itself to prepare the capital against possible violent attacks and natural disasters.

Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, in his capacity as the director of Bangkok’s internal security team, said on Monday that the Thai capital is now preparing all the security programs after last week’s Boston Marathon bombing in the US killed 3 and injured 141 people.

M.R. Sukhumbhand stated that the preparation is a precaution against possible copycat moves by ill-intended individuals.

While conceding that the BMA is not directly responsible for internal security affairs, he said more than 400 city officers have already been trained in intelligence gathering and should be a strong support for the agencies in charge of the matter.

The Bangkok Governor also expressed worries about more and more reports of earthquake in various parts of the world, particularly in countries near Thailand.

Accordingly, he has urged all relevant units to ready their prevention and handling programs while instructing responsible offices to particularly pay attention to the safety of high-rises, which were built before 1992, and all royal residences.

Some light reading for the governor might help alleviate his worrying.

Although I doubt it.

Given the vast amount of dodgy construction in Bangkok, in the wake of even a moderate sized earthquake or strong tremor, most of the city would collapse like a pack of cards.

Unfortunately, this scenario is within the scope of reality. Very scary.
