CHON BURI, April 23 – Marine Department officials will enforce zoning for ferry boats, swimmers and water-sports activities in coastal areas of the seaboard town of Pattaya following a speed boat collision here on Sunday.

Rewat Poriang, director of the Pattaya Marine Office, said wharfs in Pattaya and nearby Ko Lan will be clearly marked.

Commuter boats must now install speed control devices and radios.

The two speed boats which collided near Ko Lan off Pattaya on Sunday were not equipped with such equipment.

Two Korean tourists were injured in the incident, after which one of the drivers turned himself in to police. The other remains at large.

If tourist would be willing to pay more they could get safe, modern designed boats instead of old plywood boats with a terrible trim and no safety gear. Somehow most tourist will prefer to take the risk of going in an unsafe boat than having to dish deep in their pockets.

Good one, blame the victim.

These tourist are on a package tour to the island, they cannot choose which boat to go on. The most important safety feature on a boat is the guy behind the wheel! This is also something you cannot choose and pick. Tourist have a reasonable right to expect that person has some training, not just a cowboy.
