If they were easy Beckham might have sold shoes for a living.wink.png

practice, practice, practice. think beckham was hugely over-rated as a footballer but he put in the hours on the training ground to get his crosses and corners good. so fair play to the shallow airheaded one-trick walking billboard for that.

Harsh Stevie!

but fair, ed? you wouldn't be contradicting georgie best now would you? ;)

The skill that Beckham had required a lot more than just hours of practice.

OK, i know that footballers are generally lazy gits, but come on, if acquiring the dead ball and crossing skill that he had was that simplistic, they'd be at least half a dozen players in the Premiership right now as good as he was. There aren't. In fact, since Beckham left the league ten years ago or whatever it is, there hasn't been a single player who has been able to deliver free kicks and crosses quite like him. Tells you something... or at least it should do.

Well he would not have had such a great career if it wasn't for that special talent to deliver a ball like no one else.

for god sake they even made a film about it

Not a single player you say?

Kenny Dalglish joins Liverpool's board

Fenway Sports Group and Liverpool FC today announced that Kenny Dalglish is returning to Liverpool Football Club after accepting an invitation to join the board of directors.

Following discussions with the club's owners, managing director Ian Ayre and manager Brendan Rodgers, Kenny will take up his position as non-executive board director with immediate effect.

The new role will allow the ownership and senior management to benefit not just from the Anfield legend's decades of experience, but also his close affinity with supporters.

Dalglish said: "It is an honour and privilege to be asked to return to Liverpool as a director of the club. I have always said if there is anything I could do to help this club I would make myself available - when the call came I had no hesitation.

"I am looking forward to working with the board of directors and contributing to the strategic issues that affect Liverpool Football Club.

"Liverpool has given me and my family so much since we came here just over 36 years ago and my priority is and will always be to have the club's best interests at heart."

Fenway Sports Group principal owner, John W Henry, said: "We are delighted Kenny has accepted our offer to join Liverpool as a non-executive board director and we are sure he will make a valuable contribution to the club's strategy.

"Kenny has a unique relationship with our supporters and embodies everything that is special about Liverpool. We are thrilled that the club will benefit from his experience, and passion for the club and our supporters.

"Kenny has a unique insight on the values and traditions that helped to make Liverpool one of the greatest sporting institutions, not just in football, but in world sport. We are proud and honoured to have him back at the club he has represented with such distinction."

Rodgers commented: "When I met with Kenny to discuss this appointment, I was struck by the passion and drive he still has in wanting to see Liverpool return to where it should be - one of the most successful clubs in the world.

"We are all together in that goal - owners and supporters, players and management and also icons such as Kenny Dalglish. I want people around us who have this club and what it stands for in their heart."

Can we take it that he won't have anything to do with transfers !

It's not very clear in the article but what exactly will he be doing? I think (and I might be wrong) a non-executive means they don't have anything to do with the day-to-day running of the business and are usually brought in as part of governance compliance and can remove and hire senior management etc but usually they have a specialist skill i.e. Finance/Accounting.

Non exec are not involved in the daily running as i'm aware. It sounds like a PR move by the owners, but nice to see him back at Liverpool anyway.

Perhaps Suarez is off to Madrid in the summer!!!!

just a ceremonial role really, ambassador etc. like bobby the tout charlton at united. but the sort of figure liverpool have lacked for years, a real legend of the club who won everything. having him around in any role is a boost to the club.

I doubt Dalglish is here to replace Suarez, he hasn't played as our No. 7 for a while now :)

Please let us start playing for 90 mins. We could destroy teams like this if we did. happy though, and ggod to see Agger back, though it causes problems. i like Moses until he has a crack at goal, Henderson not enough of a force still. S+S lookijng great, Gerrard looked better. Top of the table but still need some tweeking. Cothinio behind S+S is gonna be awesome. Disappointed we leaked that late goal, but overall very happy.

Disappointed we leaked that late goal

I'm not nelly. It was a life saver for me in the prediction comp. Doing garbage until that 3-1 and it was my banker. thumbsup.gif

I never care about the comp. 4-0 would have made me ecstatic. I have m united down for a win but I'm happy to see Sunderland ahead. I had Cardiff down for a win even though I thought newcastle would win the game. I'm sentimental about some teams and like to support the underdogs in games. There are generally enough games to level the ground between thought and emotion though. 3-1 was a great shout, I never though palace would score, but I also didn't think we could score 3, especially in 1 half.

I also go with my gut feel in the comp and I too have United down for a win but I'll be more than happy to get no points on that one. tongue.png

like minds.....What do you think about Henderson? Some times I find myself being harsh on him even though his game has been OK (like today), but i expect more from him and feel he needs to step up and take the bull by the horns. personally I would like him to take responsibility like he does forthe under 21s.

I thought Henderson had a good game yesterday, mopped up well and kept the ball moving. I thought Sakho was class apart from one mistake that he got away with.

Slightly disappointed we didn't keep it going 2nd half but hopefully that will come.

henderson's a different player when played centrally, he's really good.

and yes, when we actually play for 90 minutes in a match we're going to be something.

suarez and sturridge are too good for the vast majority of premier league defences.

This is what i mean, i feel critical of him for no reason other than I think he should be better. I agree with SH he needs to be central.

In the center of midfield in what way must he be better now though? he keeps the ball well, breaks up play playing a holding role on sat. What more do you want from him?

I still think Henderson looks lost and Sterling runs like some of the Thai guys at the gym. wink.png

Overall, Liverpool are looking good and as you said if only they could keep it up for 90 minutes they would be almost unbeatable.

I'd like to see Ibe getting get a shot. Sterling seems to just run as fast as he can then loss the ball, if he does get a pass away it's pretty ineffective. Missed the mighty Lucas, still lacking depth I can see a couple more injuries and we could easily get hammered by a relegation battling side (without a striker) like West Ham at home biggrin.png

Agree with what you say about everything concerning LFC but that's not why I quoted you ..."and we could easily get hammered by a relegation battling side (without a striker) like West Ham at home biggrin.png"

we've got to be careful with sterling, he still shouldn't be playing as much as he is really. he's 18 <deleted>.

centre mid remains a concern any which way, we're just not bossing games which lets opponents come back into it in second halves. no way should a side as bad as palace have had such encouragement in a second half. that should have been put to bed four and five after half-time.

I'm not sure. Like said, Ithink he is a waste out wide anywhere, and his game in the middle is getting better. But I have high hopes for him, and get this fatherly urge to push him on to better things. Sterling really does need some coaching in some aspects of his game ( you know what they are), as I don't feel he will develope past a great runner with the ball. Again I have to say he is getting better though.
