Just wondering which original documents one is required to actually have in the vehicle when driving, and for which documents a copy will suffice?

It seems to me that the original of the government insurance certificate and an original driving licence is enough, and all the rest can be copies - tax receipt, blue book, full insurance certificate etc. with the original left at home in a safe place.

What do forum members do about carrying documents?

For me, just driving license and copies of Blue Book.

Window sticker shows first class insurance policy number and phone number. Annual Registration sticker shows you had Govt insurance at time of renewal so do not think you need to carry original. (of course tomorrow I will get stopped and asked to show it, sods law).

OP seems you've about summed it up..My take is if you have things you don't need no worries, as long as you don't have the blue book with you, if you have things you do need and don't have it then you may have issues so nothing wrong with being over-prepared I'm certain your car can carry the extra weight smile.png ..
