Sandman77 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Here in Indonesia where I travel at the moment, when I look at the uht milk pack it says it has 30 procent phosphor inside, for what is phosphor used in the food industry? In the 80 "s I was in Italy on holiday, there was many poison in the ocean also phosphor when I walk in the night the water. Lights up during walking, sounds dangerous when it's also inside the milk..
katana Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I guess the 'phosphor' means phosphorus, which is an essential nutrient required by the human body and is in fact the most abundant mineral after calcium in the body. It's required for healthy teeth, bones and cell function etc Whether this is natural phosphorus found in the milk or extra added to the milk for health benefits by the manufacturers remains to be seen. Funnily enough, while the body requires phosphorus, too much in your diet can actually cause problems and be unhealthy.
Tywais Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Not possible to have 30 percent phosphorus in it without causing serious medical problems. Most likely is saying 30% of minimum daily requirements. Phosphorous is the 2nd most common mineral in the body next to calcium. Around 715 grams for a 65kG person. Webelements Body needs around 700 mg/day.
Ginkas Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 As stated phosphorus is a natural mineral in milk. Some 'googling' shows milk usually has around 30+% calcium; and 20-30% phosphorus, depending on type of milk. Quite natural!
Tywais Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 The amount of potassium and sodium in milk decreases as its fatpercentage increases. For example, a 1-cup serving of 2 percent milkcontains 224 milligrams of phosphorus and 342 milligrams of potassium.Using the above recommendations of 700 milligrams for phosphorus and4,700 milligrams for potassium, this amounts to 32 percent and 7 percentof your respective daily intakes for these nutrients. In comparison, 1cup of skim milk contains 247 milligrams of phosphorus and 382milligrams of potassium, or 35 percent and 8 percent of your respectivedaily intakes. As skim milk contains approximately 2/3 the calories of 2percent milk, it is a much less fattening option for helping you meetyour daily phosphorus and potassium needs. Healthyeating
