I never fail to be amazed at the lack of arithmetical skills when reading

Thai English language papers. It would appear the scribes and editors

get hopelessly confused when the numbers surpass their finger and

toe count.

On the front page of today's Nation is a large spread showing among other data, the

income distribution in Thailand.

It shows :-

Top 5% > 1 Billion Bt/Annum ... (US 25,000,000)

Next 25% (US 2,500 - US 25,000,000)

Bottom 70% < (US2,500)

So, they would have us believe that the top 5% in Thailand earn > 25 million dollars per annum

while the top 5% in America earn just over a quarter million per annum.

Surely this would be a lack of investigative skills rather than arithmetic - after all their exchanges are about right.

We must remember that there are a lot more American's than Thais - so the top 5% would offer a smaller spread - but still very unlikely I would suggest.
