Anti-Drunk Driving Campaign

Representatives, who have been affected by drunk driving, jointly drove their wheelchairs from Bangkok to the northern province of Chiang Mai, in an attempt to campaign against drunk driving.

The Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation, led by Mr. Damrong Buttan, the Foundation President, along with many drunk driving victims as well as the public and private sectors, organized an event where people drove their wheelchairs to campaign against drunk driving. The route was a 700-km course from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The effort was to help reduce the number of road accidents, fatalities and injuries from drunk driving.

Last year, 12,858 people either lost their lives or were wounded from this type of reckless accident. And during Songkran Festival, 522 Thais were killed and thousands were injured from road accident, and most of them were from drunk driving.

Meanwhile, this campaign, where the victims also participated in, has never been held before in the world, and if the nine wheel chair drivers are able to complete this extensive course, they would also be recorded in the Guinness World Record.
