American Cheated By Late Thai Wife Of 20 Million Baht Wants His Assets Back

Poor man like so many foreigners who come here they just wanna nice life and happy to put up the money to do so but get cheated by Thais. The only time I would trust a Thai is if they had their house and money under MY NAME in my home country, unlikely I know; either that or I hold a Thai passport, sorry there is no other way otherwise it just leads to financial ruin 100% guaranteed, lesson to all.

you don't get it, never ever trust a thai if you are farang, capital letters NEVER, in your home country he/she gets a lawyer and you will be f..ked, no biz with thais, no trust to thais, biz only in the horizontal area, pay the price and send her to the sticks, its like playing high stake poker, never show your eyes and always cover your dick, richard Edited by deesamui

i find it amusing that thailand will seek justice for tourists, yet overlook justice for expats getting ripped off by greedy needy thais, a justice system needs to be set in place to help expats

Get real - LOS makes millions every day this way.

Rule no 1 > only invest as much as you can afford to loose , If you have to walk away at least you have reserves, investing your nest egg and having a Thai woman look after it for you? What an expensive lesson feel sorry for him but there's one born everyday. No chance of getting the money back & if a solicitor tells you he can, he is milking you as well for your last baht. It is a jungle out there and they try to squeeze every last baht out of you.

There should be a sign at the airport: 'if you have no sense, avoid getting married here'... or simply 'don't get married'. tongue.png

Like they say in the movie, "It's not that I don't trust people. I just don't trust the devil inside of them." Thailand is the hub of evil spirits and "He farang; he no good to me." is another form of saying "The Devil made me do it." Regarding the accident; who knows and who really cares? I know I do not. Life is a gift and if you crap on it, you will lose every time; not your time, its time.

Feel sorry for the guy, but don't understand how he let this happen. How can she have embezzled the money without him knowing? Didn't he check his bank accounts regularly? Things like this are bound to happen if you're so careless with your money.

For all the Thai bashers - this also happens in USA and UK.

But you do have SLIGHTLY more chance of the law taking an objective view and it's much harder to bribe legal people in UK and USA than it is in Thailand!

Very hard for heterosexual men to keep hold of their assets in any country...

... it's what happens in life, a man meets a woman, he gets married, she leaves with his money.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. Apparently you, and presumably people you know, have made some bad choices and had some very bad luck - I guess as a result you are quite bitter and it is clouding your ability to be rational on this topic as you are overstating the prevalence of such things to, I believe, an absurd degree.

not much helpful advice to the OP then...believe he wasnt legally married anyway...rolleyes.gif

The helpful advice would be...dont put "sh*t in other peoples name and then have the belief you actually own said "sh*t" and if you do decide to put "shit" in another persons name, accept the fact one day you may have to walk away and lose that "sh*t"

Welcome to the club dude, my ex took much more than that and my 3 kids, tried to have me killed 3 times, had me arrested on false charges twice.... this is thailand, a Thai lie is much whiter than any farang truth..

I am also part of that club,, i hope he gets something although i think he will get nothing but the publicity is worth more than money, let the population know that farangs can fight back and get some justice instead of just ripping us off knowing they can do it and we have nothing to come back, i'd love to take my ex to court and get justice if only for the publicity although she will probably kill me of frame me for something and many of us know i'm not making this up,, good luck sir i wish i could donate to your cause, i really would.

You must be a real lovable kind of guy

I have no idea if things happened as he described. I have no idea what sort of person he is. But one thing I do know: you have absolutely no cause to imply it was due to character flaws he has or actions by him and that's a very ugly comment to make.

There are terrible people everywhere. Sometimes in Thailand (and elsewhere but for specific reasons, it happens a lot here) people make arguably very foolish choices about whom they trust and suffer very serious consequences as a result: anyone who lives here and isn't remarkably ignorant or in complete denial knows this.

The very fact his three kids tried to kill him three times means nothing to you.

I see you ran the two posts together like I as if I had said it all

Here is a little bit of truth for you. Look at post 15

I said

You must be a real lovable kind of guy

in response to CrisRMenumate post that said

Welcome to the club dude, my ex took much more than that and my 3 kids,

twice.... this is thailand, a Thai lie is much whiter than any farang

truth

Edit

I just checked and noticed your name was not on the list that approved of what the guy said. Post number 2 already has 18 people approving of it.

I don't think it was the three kids who tried to kill him three times - I think it was his ex wife - you can read it either way of course but I seriously doubt it was his kids

Maybe many foreigners here who get ripped off just don't go to court. Maybe many just don't have the assets left to take the cases to court. I think many people are in fear they will get killed or beaten up and therefore don't go to court - I am not sure what the chances are but I think the chances are less than people fear they are. Maybe wrong of course!

You can't read it either way if you read it correctly. Unless the guy misplaced a comma, it doesn't mean his kids tried to kill him.

Not only farang lose custody of kids. I knew a Thai lady who left C.mai to find better pastures in a neighboring city. While getting oriented, she left youngest boy with ex-husband's (Thai policeman's) sister, and elder boy with her katoy brother. When she went back, a year later to get the boys, the ex-sister- in-law went in to a rage and wouldn't release the child. The elder boy became profoundly effeminate and now wants a surgical sex-change.

Here in Thailand they practise a thing called a "USUFRUCT"...anyone in Thailand buying land and house should look it up...you have a seperate book with your name in it allowing you to live in that house for life, no one can go and get a loan on the property without your approval, no one can sell the property with out your approval, cheap to get , no lawyers needed.......works for me...my wife was glad to do it and did all the paperwork to make it happen.......if your wife/g/friend turns their nose up at it ...loose them

one thing i dont understand is he came to thailand with 25million bht to invest, what about his assets in america he was 39yrs old, first marriage didnt last so how much did that one get, then there is the home here which he say's is about to be repossessed, for a person to have and make decent money in thailand what kind of mortage did they have or was that in her name only,i have plenty of sympathy for him but the saying goes "a fool and his money are soon parted" did he take his eye off the ball? no he never had them on it at the start.

“Before I came here, I had 25 million baht for investment in Thailand. With no knowledge of the Thai language, I was at a disadvantage," said Mr Harpel", Silly man, not much more can be said except I hope he finds a way out.

Hi GuysI wish a lot of you guys would look at this another way. He obviously feld secure with his lady and trusted her, he is going back to 1987 26yrs ago and I would think not a lot to learn then.Very sorry for him, he is not a fool just fell in love, lets all think back are you all so perfect. What the women can do and get in the USA on a splitup exceeds what this guy lost. There is a lawyer in Khon Kaen were I live he is Australian and classed as Doctor in his trade and is married to a high Thai lawyer they are specialists in this type of thing. It happened to an English guy and they got everything back for him. My friend had a thai wife and she tried to take him for the house which cost him 2.9mill she told him to leave and she would sell the house for 3.4mill and she would take 1 mill and the car. These lawyers sorted her out. He sold the house for 3.4mill made 500,000 profit and these lawyers sorted it out and his wife ended up with 500,000 and no car. There are ways with lawyers who know what to do. Good luck to him.

I don't need another Thai lawyer at the moment, but I would appreciate the business name and tel No of this lawyer,in case anything changes.

When has thailand sought justice for tourists? If you sign over assets to another person - providing there was no fraud or misrepresentation - then there's little legally that can be done. No matter what country you are in.

Points of view >>>

Mindless American bashers:

Damn these Americans must have rocks in their heads to be tricked

so easily by a Thai girl with no education.

Long term bitter expats:

Another farang cleaned out by a evil Thai girl. So sad....

Rose colored glasses upcountry farangs:

No way a wonderful sweet Thai girl would have done this. Clearly he was a bad man, and most likely in some way deserved this problem. My wife would never ever do that to me, she is different.

Local Thai police:

Really wish these Thai girls could get money from farangs without so much fuss. Makes our village look bad with the media spotlight and having to go to court.

I like the rose colored glasses one. thumbsup.gif

As much as I trust my wife, I would never put her in charge of my money.

I will share with readers my experience as I too went through the wall of fire and hell...in March 2006...I am now fully recovered from event...and now pay as I go...put of of my programmed ideas of marriage...(I have kept all correspondences digital on my netaddress server..why?...as others may learn from what they may go through and IF I have any IDEAS of creating a serious relationship...just read though my past...wow I really went through this and lived! The events did awaken me to my deeper awareness of LIFE...I hope you enjoy,,,(maybe a novel of non-fictional) and have sympathy upon my timeline of 2006...I have more should publish in a book...Married to THAI Lady married to the Devil"

Dear Sir:

I have been in contact with:
Sukanya Racharit
Senior Consular Program Officer at the Cdn Embassy she has had most of
my correspondences on this case: i now have a niece that will pay for
airline ticket..much pleading she was wary of my wife from the
beginning...myself I was blind!!Here is a brief explanation on fraud:. My wife calls me from Thailand
to tell me she won a VIGO Toyota Truck while looking under the bottle
cap of OSHI tea. I had sent through my employer xxxxx helicopters to
deposit this Value Added TAX on win was $1800 Cdn, no problem, I was
happy. Later that month she said she won a "lottery house" and needed
$4800 for TAX on 3 million baht house. I was suspicious and sent email
to my Thai friend in Canada...he said be cautious...she kept calling and
leading me to believe this was true. Kan said "we can rent house out or
sell it" Sell it and we can FINISH THE HOUSE THAT IS HALF DONE ON HER
PROPERTY was my idea.
I arrived BKK on Nov 11 remembrance day..the truck was their at
airport, so were her brothers driving us to hotel. The following day we
drove to MahaSarakham, I wanted to see the lottery house!,
postponed...she knew what she said she would share the money with
me...later once I get the sellers money!

I arrived at our rented house $125 month, Kan restaurant was STILL
operational, it was on government land. I was happy, now worries, played
tennis, drove my new phantom motor bike, kan said came with the house!
wow what a nice life!!!, until the government official wanted Kan to
move her cement structural OFF land. I helped move her restaurant and
things onto THIS NEW PROPERTY she was going to pay for from the LOTTERY
HOUSE MONEY...well that is fine! She put 30K bhat down and the 400K baht
land now was her's until final payment! Oh yes the truck now was going
to MAKE MONEY in transporting people from Sarakham to BKK, that is the
last time I seen truck!

I am in Sarakham now DEPENDENT of wife giving me money!!! People are
LOOKING for HER, she booked me into HOTEL in her name, I did not know
this...until a month later talking with Kan's Uncle and Budda, she said
the hotel is better for you..besides I HAVE BIG MONEY COMING FROM SALE
OF HOUSE! now that is convincing right?

I had no cell phone to call her she had my cell phone...I needed
money...should I get out the Safe my credit card..yes! I went to Bank
and her they are MAXED OUT, I went on line and got the statement and
immediately said I did not authorize their use!!! Kan denined using
them...they were under-lock and key...Kan said Sister 2 staying with my
pilot friend had a key to safe, she is the one that used the
cards...grief is just starting. Again no money..but it is Kan had told
her UNCLE MANOON one lie and tell me the opposite, we never really knew
the GREAT PLAN..until I met with a Thai Fellow that spoke
english/Thai.Mr. Budda The three of us found out that Kan had LEASED
PURCHASED THE VEGO TRUCK, THE PHANTON MOTORCYCLE, the property newly
acquired was guarantor by her UNCLE! She somehow put a loan on the
property of the HOUSE I am building....now with NO MONEY from me as I
gave her all I had in the fact SHE would pay back from Lottery house.

I will be appealing the decision passed by American Express, AmEx would not tell me if my cheques were counter signed as a forgery or if my wife signed them in her name. Either case I have a police report saying they were stolen from my apartment while in BKK. I am awaiting copies of cheq to be sent to Karolyn Courts in Bkk, once I get the copies I will have a better understanding of whom is responsible for allowing checks to be cashed. The Kasakorn Bank in Roi Et approved the cashing of checks while in Bkk branches declined my wifes request as no "Original Passport was presented" so wife drove to Roi Et (taxi drive and an accomplish) drove to Roi Et to where the Mr. Ponsak Wongjaeng manage cell # 081-661xxx approved of transaction. I am waiting from decision of Head Branch to explain why they allow such an error to happen!!!

I have to deal with this problem and trying to locate my wife that has gone missing, she phones occassionally say "I am going to German with my boyfriend" or I am going on holidays in Phuket, that is all.

My divorce will take two stages, one the divorce, second the property settlement of my house on her land. I understand she has forged my signature on house sale and financed her property with fraud, miss leading the finance company and present owners. I am sorry to bring this news to you but I know you have connections to help a canadian being treated very unfairly in this land of smiles and trust.

Thank you for replying and hope you can forward this to a party that will be of some assistance to my problem.

Kans world is now collapsing. finance companies after her, the village
council after her and the police...yes, she would not stay at rental
house, her nephew was with her constantly 24/7 I new this is a bit
strange to have him constantly around...never did we have a moment
alone. She said she sleeps in Park with Nephew, later to discover she is
sleeping with farang in hotel to get money to EAT...I have his name and
he is trying to help me get funds to leave.... a file for your reading

Feel sorry for this one. He took risks many of us would not. He came here in 89 when most of you had not even visited, now everyone is an expert.

Sure loads of questions and he was in the end a dumbass but I would point to fact that his wife was arrested and charged.

Really a foul woman - family. To steal one thing, to bleed him dry worse yet, in his late years.

Lessons here Im sure.
