I have a British friend in Australia, who is wanting to marry a girl in our village. Now he knows he needs the affirmation to marry, his question is can he get this at the British embassy in Bangkok, or even in Australia? I've explained he'll need to get it translated into Thai.

He can only gets his affirmation letter from his embassy in BKK, or general consulate in Chiang Mai. Their website has details on what documents he needs to bring.

1. get the letter

2. have I translated into Thai

3. have it certified by the Thai Foreign Ministry

4. make copies/scans of all documents for immigration

5. go to any amphur and get married

And if he has been divorced, somewhere a copy of his divorce decree. As was required by me.

The Embassy or Consulate require an ORIGINAL copy of the decree...

A heads up on this. Some immigration offices (Kap Choeng) are now requiring for first time application of extension to stay based on marriage a certified copy of your Affirmation to Marry . So make copies and file them..
