Hi, I need some information regarding custody of my daughter. My ex is willing to voluntarily give me full custody. Need to know if this is a quick process as it is voluntary. Can it be done at the local Amphur. Daughter has been with me for the last 12 years or so, Mother is unable/unwilling to take care. She had 2 further children after I left her, both of which she farmed out to other families! My daughter has both British and Thai passports.

Any info much appreciated.

You mention ex. Does that mean ex-GF or ex-wife? It makes all the difference, but in case of ex-GF you can go to the amphur to become the legal parent of the child but not sure if you can also get sole custody there. You probably have to go to court for that part. While if divorced you seek an alteration of the custody arrangements and I presume you will need to go to court for that also and cannot do it at the amphur.

You could contact isaanlawyers and ask them. It should be a simple question for them.

If I'm not incorrect, custodial agreements can be registered at the Amphur during a divorce process, but I have always wondered if this gives the parent with custody the right to make decisions of legal kind regarding the child. For instance, if you wanted to get a passport for the child, will full custody grant you the right to do this without the other parents consent?

If you have sole custody it means that you can make all decisions regarding to the child by yourself. That includes applying for a passport, for which you than need to bring proof of sole custody to the passport office. The other parent simply doesn't have any parental rights anymore. That is the difference with shared custody.
