Vehicle theft and missing Hungarian mystery investigated by Pattaya Police

hungary-1.jpg
PATTAYA:--A Police Unit dedicated to suppressing auto theft is caught in the middle of a complicated and confusing case involving a missing Hungarian and a confused girlfriend.

Last month the alleged theft of a White Toyota Fortuna was reported to Police in Phuket in the South of Thailand. The man thought to have taken the vehicle was a Hungarian worker named as Mr. Robert Toth. He holds a Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Labour and Police checks determined the permit was issued under an assumed name and the real name of the man is Mr. Lajas Toth.

The Police Unit located the vehicle in Central Pattaya last week in the car park of Foodland Supermarket on the Central Pattaya Road. At the time it was being driven by Mr. Toth who was accompanied by his Thai Girlfriend Khun Gaeson aged 30. At this point the vehicle was seized but due to lack of evidence at the time, both were allowed to go on their way until investigations into the vehicle were completed.

....so the foreigner is the guilty one of course.....

.....and I would call that more of an 'Anglicization' of a name, than an 'assumed name'.....

I half expected it to read "the stolen vehicle was being driven by the owner, who was released for lack of evidence". Maybe gf was confused because she couldn't decide who to con to get title?

And of course begs the question: Don't they have better things to do?

He also confirmed that any of his officers found to be corrupt in this or any case dealt with by the unit would be dealt with in accordance with Thai Law.

Translation: Transferred to a desk job for a week, and forced to add 50% to his normal Tea Money to his superiors for a month.

Strange story. The fact that the guy seems to have bailed doesn't look good for his case. But it is also strange they refer to it as an "alleged theft". Either it was stolen or it wasn't. Perhaps it's just a poorly written/translated article. First it refers to an alleged theft then says the vehicle is believed to have been taken by Mr. Toth. This would indicate to me the person that reported the theft knew him and had reason to believe he took it. But then, knowing how "news" gets printed here they may have bungled the article and just meant that when it was found he was driving it so they believed him to be the culprit since he did a runner and his gf is still around for questioning. As to why they would find a stolen vehicle and not bring the people behind the wheel in for questioning is another mystery.

Who reported it stolen in Phuket? (Robert's wife?)

Robert on holiday in Pattaya with mia-noi ?

Labour office can not spell/pronounce "Lajas", and hardly a false name as they will surely have endless copies of his passport for the WP4 anyway.

Maybe the police made a typo on the licence plate?

Police Colonel Teerapol...claimed there had been a big misunderstanding and confirmed the vehicle had been stolen and reported as such by Khun Intara who is based in Phuket. They also believe that Mr. Toth had already left Thailand

and only wanted to speak with Khun Gaeson about the case and there was no intention to continue with the case in an unlawful manner.

I wonder what Khun Gaeson did for Khun Teerapol to get off the hook? She looks familiar to me, worked on coconut bar for a number of years.
