Police arrested a 35-year-old Danish tourist in Jomtien and charged him with the attempted rape and assault of a 35-year-old Thai lady on Monday night.

According to the woman, she was working as waitress at a Jomtien Beach Road restaurant when the accused came in with a friend to eat and drink. The Dane’s friend went off with a girl from a bar after the restaurant closed and the accused allegedly followed his victim as she walked towards her home, asking her if she would accompany him for a night of sexual adventure.

When she refused his advances he became angry and then violent and attempted to rape her. She claimed she was able to kick him in a sensitive part of his anatomy and make her escape. Luckily, she was able to flag down a passing motorcycle police patrol who came to her aid and arrested the man. Taken to the Dong Tan police sub-station the offender fell into a deep slumber.

Very difficult to believe.

Not all girls in Pattaya are prostitutes but many tourists fail to understand that.

So true. I made sure I pushed that point to my co-workers that were planning on coming here. A bad reputation (Thailand) and crappy "urban legends" have lead to a lot of people thinking every girl is available for sex on demand.

Some places used to have signs "Our Staff are not for Rent".

In this guy's case, it was pretty obvious that he was plastered. No beer bar around (he was in a restaurant, being served alcohol), so maybe he thought it was no different than a beer bar (as far as the availability of the staff are concerned).

Doesn't excuse his actions in any way though. If you can't control yourself when you are drinking, you shouldn't drink. If a girl says no for what ever reason, then that's it. Tough luck and try again some other night.

Intoxication should not be allowed as a defense. Many people can't control their actions when they are drunk, but it was their decision to drink, so they should be held accountable for their actions.

Unless he agrees to pay some hefty compensation, I'd say this guy's holidays are over.

Thai woman decides to take the money

Drunken Danish man half throttles her Soi Welcome in Jomtien was the location of a nasty incident in which an intoxicated resident of the European Union lost his temper when refused a sexual encounter.

Mrs Ananya Tanlay, 33, said she was working in a bar in that soi when a drunk foreigners lurched in. He was obviously the worse for wear at 3.30 a.m. in the morning, but business is business and she served the unwelcome guy a beer.

As she was waiting for this fellow to drink up and leave, she felt hungry and went outside to find a food stall still open. But none was. As she was returning to the bar, she was shocked to find the Danish guy had followed her with an indecent proposal. He said he wanted to sleep with her very much but, unfortunately, he had no money. He stressed that in Denmark sex is usually free in any case.

Mrs Ananya was not best pleased by this set of affairs and strongly resisted the unwelcome advances. The result was that the Danish guy started to punch her and put his hands round her throat in a throttling manoeuvre. So she pretended to go along with the drunk by promising she would take her jeans off. But, as soon as she was free, she ran down the soi shouting for help.

The police were soon on the scene, arrested the violator and asked Mrs Ananya whether she wished to press charges or settle out of court as the accused, Mr Alex Johnsson, had money in his room. She said the latter course would bring the quickest relief.
