Yes it was only a few days. I can't remember how long but it was less than they told us.

One more thing Phil, what happens in the days prior to the transfer, do you keep using your old sim untill they disconnect you from the network or are you a few days without a number.

Do you get a new sim from your new provider.

Can you please explain the transfer procedure.

I ported from AIS/One-2-Call to DTAC/Happy. I was told it would take 3 ~ 5 days (including a weekend). It ended up taking ~ 36 hours. Very easy.

Yes, you do get a new SIM from your destination, port in, provider.

Service providers have MNP details.

Thanks, I think I could figure out the procedure from the Dtac website if the procedure is identical for all providers.

Amazing actually how foreigner unfriendly these providers still are, as it is impossible to view the MNP procedure, or most other important information for that matter, in English on either AIS or True website, even google translate will not work.

That's because Aid and True don't like foreigners that much.. an evil necessity so to speak.

Whereas according to reports DTAC are evil foreigners (most reports from Ais and True. Funny enough

.... disconnected from the network every 15 minutes.....

I think AIS are nuts to want to migrate customers to 2100 MHz w so few coverage.

MNP away from AIS until they fix it, can MNP back later.

MNP process easy, typically can do outlet of other operator.

MNP timing - depends on back log. I still think AIS will have a lot of issues migrating customers as there is a daily max quota ( I think this applies from 900 to 2100 ).

Just to reiterate the message to the frustrated AIS customers, be patient. I'm sure AIS will eventually sort things out, and by all accounts, customers who have successfully migrated to AIS's 2100 MHz service (both of them ? wink.png), the service seems quite good.

Really ? Then how do you explain that I who have been " successfully " migrated to the 2100 MHz network yesterday, get disconnected from the network every 15 minutes.

When I make a manual network search and find the 52003 network, in 90% of the case it will give me the message " can not connect try again later ". When I'm able to connect to it I will be disconnected again 15 minutes later.

Now I'm on the THgsm network again wit and " R " from roaming next to my phone signal and no internet.

Keep in mind that I'm within 300 meters of several major landmarks, like Highway 7 and Highway 36, and I every possible provider is visible when I do a network search at my location

Maybe you need to change your sim card.

or it could be in your phone settings

@ Jbrain

wel when i connect to a network i can select some props in thhat network like timeout time (samsung)

No such settings on Samsung Note.

I choose manual network search, get all the networks available at my location, then choose the network I want to register on.

With 52003 it will try for quite some time then gives me the message unable to connect. TH GSM I can connect to.

Why don't you just change service providers?

You have to configure an APN, correctly of course, and select it. Maybe choose data roaming?

I think AIS is trying to provision via OTA, i.e. sending a service message to your phone which includes code you need to execute.

You may have to remove the SIM, battery, re-insert, and re-start the phone.

Maybe check:

Settings, About phone, Status

Settings, Wireless & networks, More, Mobile networks: data enable? Data roaming checked? -- Access Point Names: which one is selected, what are its properties?

http://www.ais.co.th/3g/apn/APN_setting_Android.pdf

Maybe grind through: use Google Translate if encessary

http://aisclub.ais.co.th/Default.aspx?mid=27

They send me the OTA file right after they " activated " my sim for the 2100 Mhz betwork, and I executed it.

Now for the TH GSM network I have data roamong activated, but as of today I can still not connect to the 52003 network however it is visible when I do a network sarch.

@HML367 : I'm indeed planning to change service providers, thats why inquired about the MNP procedure, but I'm afraid I may get from bad to worse.

I can see the True H/cat network, but I can not previously test how good my connection will be, do I ?

^ It sounds like your phone is not properly configured for the 52003 network.

You can get SIMs for 50 baht, and subscribe to daily data plans for 49 baht so maybe best to try these out before porting or jumping ship, assuming your number is valuable. FWIW, you could keep a desired number and just forward calls from it to a new number, for some period. You pay for forward calls. Leave a vmail greeting with your new number, send SMSes, etc., there are many alternatives.

Was the Unknown Sources allowed for installation of apps when you executed the OTA file?

I have tried to run updates in the past on my Note and the updates didn't work unless this set correctly.

What you mean that my phone isn't properly configured for the 52003 network.

I received the OTA sms, and applied it, what else can I change.

In the short period between they activated the sim for the 52003 network and the time they send me the sms, I could not connect to the internet.

I noticed at some point about 1 hbour after the sim was activated that I already was disconnected from the network, but was able to reconnect manually at that point, after which I was notified of a missed call from 1175 and the sms arrived right after I reconnected.

Later on the phone disconnected repeatedly from the 52003 network and I was not able to connect again.

When I was in Pattaya city that night, Iwas able to connect to the 52003 network there, but when I returned home after a short while it disconnected and not possible to connect again, however the network is visible.

I don't recall if that was enabled, but I received a notification that the software was installed succesfully and right after the install the 3G symbol popped up on my phone.

I received the browser configuration message and it shows as installed.

I didn't receive a mms configuration message so far yet.

In my APN's it shows AIS INTERNET.

Asked again: screenshots accepted.

Settings, About phone, Status (Network name, Mobile network type, mobile network state)

Settings, Wireless & networks, More, Mobile networks: data enable? Data roaming checked? -- Access Point Names: which one is selected, what are its properties?

Based on the jumble of your responses my best guess is that where there is AIS/2100 MHz 3G your phone registers with that network. Evidently at your home you register to TH GSM, even though you can "see" 52003, that may not be the optimum network for your location, or it may not yet be turned up, or able to get to the HLR.

Assuming you were able to get onto 2100 MHz 3G in Pattaya City as you say, then it seems obvious that there is some issue with base-stations near your home, and/or they are not currently provisioned properly. It doesn't seem like there is much you can do except inform AIS, and maybe sample TrueMove H to see if they can address your requirements.

You could try un-checking "Data roaming" just temporarily to see if you can 'force' your phone onto a 2100 MHz tower.

Not sure what kind of phone you have, but you could also get into the service menu, requires a specific set of numbers/characters entered via the dial-pad, and choose "WCDMA only", again temporarily, just to see what happens.

Right now it looks like you are on the AIS 900 MHz GSM network for both voice and 2G data.

Unchecking data roaming is of no help, tried that already.

Also choosing wcdma only isn't a real help, but in the past it would slightly improve the data signal on the 900 Mhz system.

Is the signal strenght I mentioned 87 - 101 dBm considered a fair signal or rather weak ?

Is the signal strenght I mentioned 87 - 101 dBm considered a fair signal or rather weak ?

-100 dbm or less = Unacceptable coverage

-99 dbm to –90 dbm = Weak Coverage

-89 dbm to – 70 dbm = Medium to High Coverage

-69 dbm or greater = Strong Coverage

You can use one of the many Android apps. to check out network coverage.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.staircase3.opensignal&hl=en

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.android.telnet&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImRlLmFuZHJvaWQudGVsbmV0Il0.

On some phones you can force/select a specific frequency only.

I had that Open Signal installed some time ago but found it actualli inaccurate. I think it rely on the feedback it receives from the people who install it for the cell tower locations.

I just installed it again, my wonderful AIS connection wasn't able to make the download from playstore smile.png , so did it over the wifi and when installed it pointed the location of my wifi router at exactly the opposite direction as where it actually is.

In fact it pointed to one of the access point I have around the house, but my phone was connected directly to the router.

I guess I will try out a prepaid True H sim in the next few days.

By the way I have a True move H sim laying around which I bought several months ago and which is still active. Will that one already have the 2100 Mhz frequency enabled ?

I remember when I inserted it at that time, probably 3 months ago, it would show the roaming symbol on my phone.

As regardless of apps etc.,  the prospect of a good 3G internet service on AIS 2100 is ZERO, may I suggest you all call1175 and complain?

Why? Here in NAKHON PATHOM.

Ais have good coverage. My Gf changed last week and is getting 3g in places she never even had edge before. Including her home village which is about 20km outside NK.
