BANGKOK, May 7 – The current demonstrations by various civil society groups in Thailand’s capital are controllable without any need to impose special security measures, a high-ranking official said today.

National Security Council (NSC) secretary general Paradorn Pattanatabut said the protesters have rallied within the limits allowed by the constitution and there has been no report of possible instigation by any third party.

It is unnecessary to impose the National Security Act, he said.

Pro-government Red Shirt activists, led by the so-called Radio Broadcasters for Democracy, have gathered in front of the Constitution Court since last week to press the court’s nine judges to resign.

Meanwhile, hundreds of farmers, led by the People’s Movement for a Just Society, have set up temporary shelters near Government House to call for the state to urgently resolve their poverty and environmental problems.

Deputy Commerce Minister Nattawut Saikua, a main Red Shirt leader, said he believed in the judgement of the protesters at the Constitution Court and that their demonstration will carry on peacefully.

They may call off their protest if their goal is not achieved, he said, admitting that the government was concerned with possible violence if there is infiltration by a third party. (MCOT online news)

Madam Prime Minister the farmers are revolting.

Yes I know I can smell them from here.

But hay that cant be right, the farmers have all got twice the normal price for their rice, they got credit cards, a chance to buy their first cars and they were promised they would all be rich by the peoples party who have great concern for the underprivilaged.

Must be a plot by the yellows or the Dems better get the DSI on to it right away and tell the police to get the riot gear out again we might have to clear them out.

Oh for sure they are a third party.

So says Paradorn, freshly returned from his disasterous efforts in the South after ballyhoed claims of ceasefires and impending peace.

Yet another abysmal Thaksin crony appointment failing.

No problems controlling his red shirt pals. What was the excuse for imposing draconioan measures on the small anti-government rally last year. Oh yes, madam PM thought they might try and kidnap her.

What complete tosh.

Because they wear the correct coloured shirt for protesting, any other coloured shirt protests may be a problem.

if any violence breaks out, it will be because of the fabled fake reds, not because of a massive dummy-spit like last time. Oh wait, I forgot, that wasn't us either. We had all surrendered and gone home, it was the army starting those fires - must have been because we are too stupid to light a fire.

These 'officials' that keep opening their mouths to change feet, and so prominent that I worry about Thailand and its 'real' people. Loved the post - the farmers are back trying to get a better deal. If you believe the press they are now all wealthy from the rice scam et al. And these boor bastards keep voting red. Oh well, som num na. Shin clan in full flight - with everyone's money and will continue to do so.
