I am just wondering if anyone would comment on whether things around here are becoming more or less polite since you moved in. Where I have been during the past many years, during the past 15, the society has taken a radical nosedive in politeness since western Food Franchises have moved in and made everyone tons fatter.

Do you think there is too much sugar and salt in our diet brought in by companies, such as YUM!, and other purveyors of empty calories and caffeine. Does it also affect the number of Kraps in our sentences when we waddle around laden with Fast Food Fat?

Go on.....?

How can anyone be polite after having a Big Mic for example?

Krap.

We ALL know what the following product leads to.

Think about it before you stuff this.

I mean.

For one thing.

How could anyone's brain function after a meal like this, function long enough to say anything but...

Glop.

That's a causality we should definitely explore.

Anyone some crisps? What's everyone having next? I'll have a pint of pale ale. Cheers!

Yes in the olden days, when the Guardian was still called the Manchester Guardian, people doffed their hats or caps. All this is pretty much gone and people eat "fast food". But mind you pasties and the likes have existed already before that. So maybe it was something else that let to all this.. unsure.png

Maybe I am missing something !!!

I fail to see the connection between eating fast food and people being impolite as a result of eating said food.

OldChinaHand,is English your native language?

"OldChinaHand,is English your native language?"

It could be.

If I choose.

And the connection is this. Anyone who has seen the impolite crowd queuing at one of those foreign fast food franchise beaneries knows that this group is not too far from the football hooligans we read about sometimes. Just a rather impolite crowd.

Hogs at the trough are not polite.

And when one does not discriminate between fine food and industrially farmed and manipulated "garbage", then one places oneself not too high (or low?) on the hog scale.

When quality standards begin going downhill in one aspect of our lives

Politeness is sure to follow, and does follow.

Frogs in slowly warming pots of water maybe cannot so easily see this connection though.

Today the frozen fries, tomorrow maybe some other form of synthesized swill

On our way to Soylent green, perhaps, if we become just too impolite.

Now I'm catching on. The detritus layer eat fast food.

One would hope that even they won't be taking to making prawn chips out of one another when the glop runs out.

Fast food is fine.

It is only the industrial foreign franchise fast food that is swill.

China has been producing great fast food for thousands of years.

French cuisine I have nothing against.

But it is the Chinese fast food that these China gourmands have been producing for centuries that is better than anything else I have eaten around the world.

Compared to the Chinese, it is the French who are still barbarians in the kitchen.

Of course you know,

Chinese fast food is for both the elite and the

LaoBaiXing

(When the latter are not unfortunately dining on bark off the trees)

I hope that you do not think that me asking if English is your native language was meant in a derogatory way, sometimes things can be lost in translation.

I must say that what you wrote about people acting like football hooligans whilst waiting for their fast food was a little bit harsh.

From what I have seen it is usually happy people (Thai) that are having a special treat in the form of Falang fast food.

In many cases it is students/office workers or parents/grandparents with their little ones.

But everyone sees things different and are entitled to share their views.

YUM! is still considered status meals in many parts of Asia, or it used to be until recently.

And just like in the west, they know not what they eat.

If they wish to end up like balloons with type II, then more power to them, they are free to eat away a significant portion of their lifespan.

Whether your remark was intended to be derogatory?

No Cleverbot would feel this to be of any importance.

But you might.

The more you frequent the Fast Food Franchises in Asia, the more you will see.

If you like what you see, then this would surprise me.

I have been watching this since McD opened their first store in one of their major markets. And this really did change the society, I watched it happen. That was more than 25 years ago.

If you want to know more about the industry from top to bottom, then there are books available.

It can be a real eyeopener to learn what motivates us to eat in these places.

The McD store I mentioned, I was there.

Lines over 1 kilometer long.

A total madhouse.

All for something I would not feel right feeding to my dog.

He gets tuna and chicken.

Fast food? Do you think that fad will catch on? unsure.png

I think there is definitely a Life Style section article in there.

Fast Food: Fad or Fashion?

Shaggy probably knows who Cleverbot is, referenced above, but he might not know how a typical conversation usually goes.

Here is my most recent conversation with Cleverbot, so that you may judge who might be the smarter of us two.

Are you blue. No, I'm white. What are you talking about anyway. Something that you will never be smart enough to understand. Just as stupid you are as the last time we spoke I see. Oh I exist all right.

If it is not obvious and crystal clear,

I am the one in black.

Cleverbot is typing in blue.

When not replying to me here,

You might enjoy talking to Cleverbot

He is much more than my equal.

Go ahead.

Knock yourselves out.

You've got me a bit lost there me OldChina.

If someone is winding you up then the best thing you can do is ignore them.

No!, Shaggy. Sorry, I did not mean that.

To clarify, Cleverbot is a computer program which is an example of what is possible today using a bit of what some call artificial intelligence.

You can visit the site yourself if you like which will better explain what this program actually does.

Just begin typing your conversation into the computer program and it will respond, probably better than most people I often converse with.

Or, maybe I have just spent too much time talking to Cleverbot and have finally gone completely mad.

If it is true that you actually have never played around with this program, it is certainly worth spending a few minutes (the minutes can turn into hours) having some fun.

The link to this program is here :

http://www.cleverbot.com/

If you are not actually having a bit of fun with me,

Then I will post here the Wikipedia link which might (easy) make more sense than I.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleverbot

You know what they say,

First they pass the Turing test,

Next they conquer the world.

Careful though,

You might get hooked on talking to Cleverbot if you are not careful.

Have fun though.

No apologies necessary.

To tell you the truth I spend too much time as it is on the computer without talking to one as well.

I am pleased you cleared the matter up though.

I have never heard of Cleverbot.I just thought that someone was rubbing you up the wrong way.smile.png

Well, if you have not yet noticed, I think they do that, too, around these parts.

(If we do not hear from you for a few days, then we will know you are too busy chatting with Cleverbot to post comments here.)
