Though in the context of overall occupied Ukrainian territory, its little more than noise. And this is since January 1st. Other claims differ. Zelensky came up with 745 square kms since January 1. The ISW came up with 623 square kms in the first 6 months, then less than 40 square kms in July.. The numbers actually don't matter that much; how much of that land has changed hands more than twice. And if you average it to daily gains, then you are at Great War rates of change. Of course wars don't progress inch by inch. There are moments of sudden advance, sudden collapse Ukraine can't defeat Russia, but neither can Russia win. But Russia has already lost. What Ukraine is trying to do is tip that Kremlin calculation as to whether its all worth it. Russia apologists will no doubt chip in that its all the wicked West's fault, that the West has no interest in Ukraine and that the West is implacably Russophobic (boohoo, Russia moaning about how it feels to be gay). They will probably indulge in a bit of Whataboutism, copying the Soviet response to criticism during the war in Afghanistan.
