Urgent Visa Problem

Featured Replies

My girlfriend and I, both from Denmark, went from the Cambodian border ''Poi Pet'' to Thailand and got the 15 days tourist visa. It expired on May 8, and we were just in time at the immigration office to get an extension, but only for 7 more days (until the 15th of May). Since we are planning to stay in Thailand for 30 days from now, we really need some advice on how to get such an extension. We recently learned that it should be possible to go to Vientiane in Laos and fly from there to Bangkok and this option would then provide us with the much needed 30 day tourist visa. Is this truly the only option? We've heard mixed things about going to the border in Mae Sai. Some say you can get up to 90 days there, others say 15. As we are going down south in a few days, (currently in Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai) a 15 day extension simply isen't enough, and going for another visa run from there seems very troubling.

We really hope someone can help us out here, as we don't have much time left.

You must leave Thailand within 7 days - that was not an extension you received but was a last 7 days to exit on an unapproved request for extension. You previously got a 15 day visa exempt entry at border and that is all you can obtain at border but you should be able to do that two more times without much issue if required. You could exit Thailand and fly back for 30 day visa exempt entry or stay overnight in Vientiane to obtain a tourist visa for a 60 day entry from Thai Consulate.

You made a mistake by entering Thailand on a land border. If you fly, you always get a 30 day visa exemption permit, since you are from Western Europe. Land borders only 15 days. So exit again and fly back to Thailand. Overstay is 500 Baht per day, per person, and perhaps more hassle, until prison.

From Chiangmai you can take a flight to Luangprapang, then go down to Vientiane and fly to BKK or another place in Thailand. Otherwise try to get a Thai visa Vientiane.

Cheaper option: Take the overnight train to Nong Khai (-800 Bht) then hop onto a 20 Thb train to Thanaleng station. Clear immigration after receiving your visa on arrival for Laos (1300 Thb) and take a tuk tuk to your hotel. Next day go to the Thai Consulate to apply for a 2 month tourist visa. Go back to your hotel and have some fun. Next day go to the Consulate to pickup your passports as late as possible to avoid queues (14:30} and cross the Friendship Bridge into Thailand to Nong Khai to take your train back to BKK around 18:00.

If you fly to Denmark and then fly back you will get a new 30 stamp

Lao visa prices vary by country you come from. Pay in U.S. dollars saves you about 30% on the cost of your visa. Canadians pay $42.00 U.S. or they want the equivalent of 1,800 Baht, a difference of about $18.00. Just back again from Laos, a short break before work starts again.

Expensive solution! tongue.png

Fly anywhere, day trip flight.

Fly from one of the Bangkok's Airports before or at noon with an Airline, to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, with Air Asia, Jet Airways, Tiger Airways and come back same day, afternoon, evening. Get your 30 days.

If you leave TH at an Airport, the first overstay day should be, without payment.thumbsup.gif

Works even with some bigger International-Intercontinental operating airlines.

A visa exempt entry at a land border entry is more likely 15 days. Go to a consulate and apply for a Tourist Visa, it will allow an entry of 60 days and can be extended at an immigration office for 30 days for 1900 Baht.

If you are UK as in name entry would be 30 days by air or 15 days by land for visa exempt so a trip to another country to obtain a single entry tourist visa would seem your best option - that will allow 60 days and can be extended 30 days if required at immigration office. Laos and Malaysia can provide submit morning pick up next workday afternoon - Cambodia would take 3-4 days.

Thanks guys!

No payment if only one day overstay. If 2 or more, they charge for the first day, as well.
