PATTAYA:--Chonburi Immigration based in Soi 5 off Jomtien Beach conducted a raid at an unnamed construction site in the Jomtien area on Tuesday Afternoon and arrested 59 illegal foreign workers.

A press conference was held in front of the Immigration Office, led by Police Colonel Chaiyot, the Superintendent of Chonburi Immigration. In front of him were 59 illegal foreign workers consisting of 39 men and 20 women. They all failed to produce passports or work permits to officers during the raid and were taken to the office where the process of deporting the group will begin.

I have neighbours who work for immigration and they said they pick 'em up, book 'em, take 'em to the border and they just turn around and come right back in again.

The benefits (even 100 B a day) outweigh the risks of a day in clink and a trip to the border for many of these poorest of the poor.

More likely who ever runs the building site forgot his tea money.
