NoshowJones
Never too early for speculation. 5am on the tracks dressed only in his shorts? I don't think he was a keen runner. I could be wrong. RIP, terrible way to go. I once saw someone do this at Clapham Junction, not nice. All Farangs wear shorts at any time except me.
SOTIRIOS
......one.......he was walking......another.he was lying down.... ...one has to wonder.......did his passing..or demise....leave someone 'happy and free'....... .......how could he have ended up there, in the middle of the night...the sun rises after 5:00 a.m...... (.and I have never heard of 'sudden circulatory collapse'....unless you are talking about 'bleeding to death after being cut in half by a train...) Docno
This has to be one of the oddest lines I've seen in an article in a long time: "His sudden death was the reason why he was not able to dodge the No 372 Prachin Buri-Bangkok train".

biplanebluey
What happened then. It seems like it could have been a number of things. He could have been running, out all night, sleepwalking, meeting someone, dodgy dealing, looking for someone, running from or to someone, or taking a leisurely stroll in the morning. A wonderful fully informative post Mr bigwig------ you certainly started me thinking now!!!!--------------------Thank you

NanLaew
I reckon Prachin Buri must have the fastest medical autopsy team in Thailand. If this chap indeed had some massive circulatory apocalypse BEFORE being splattered by a train around 5AM, they have the ultimate cause of death nailed down within the working day? I mean there was major body trauma and even CSI Miami wouldn't have this one pegged same-day. Usually these autopsies take ages, weeks in some higher profile cases and some never, ever get properly explained.
Sheryl
They don't mention where exactly this happened other than the province, but the 372 is the first train out of Prachinburi town and leaves there at 5 AM. So if the time is correct then it would just have pulled out of the town. In Prachinburi town, there is a market on the other side of the train tracks from the train station and it is very common to walk across the tracks to and from it, people do it all the time, as the other route is a lengthy circutuitous one. So walking across the tracks would not be an odd thing to do, at all. As to the rest, who knows. The press stories are as usual conflicting. tropo
Suicide ! How do you commit suicide with a heart attack? He fell onto the track.... I guess from the platform? The first, apparently wrong report in the OP, made it seem like a possible suicide: "The, so far unidentified, man was spotted by the driver of the Prachin Buri to Bangkok train as he walked onto the line in front of the passenger train, making it impossible for the driver to stop before hitting him"

personchester
I always hate attending these types of incidents (9) it is not a nice experience. Yea me too (27) "...attending these types of incidents..." Excuse me, but what does this mean? Observing the accident? Attending the funeral? Excuse me, but what does this mean? Observing the accident? Attending the funeral? Actually it means being assigned a task by the Police communication centre, something you can't avoid as it comes with the job. You turn up as the primary investigator. You will walk up and down the line ensuring that every single piece of flesh, hair and intestine is recorded and photgraphed in situe. When that is done you have to collect every single piece and bag it tag it and place them onto a tray. You will go through the blood soaked body searching for I.D and smell what he/she had for breakfast as the aroma leaks from the open stomach and hot fresh wounds. When you leave you follow the pieces to the hospital where they are opened up again for a doctor to view to actually determine that the person is deceased, you record the time of death as certified by the doctor and you then escort the body to the morgue. You then go home for a nice dinner of spaggetti carbonara with the wife. The next morning you get the photographs and commence an extensive investigation taking staements from every single person on the train even if it was only 12 lines of I didn't see anything. Sheryl
......He fell onto the track.... I guess from the platform? I haven't seen many platforms "in an isolated area" in Thailand? ... Suicide ! How do you commit suicide with a heart attack? He fell onto the track.... I guess from the platform? I haven't seen many platforms "in an isolated area" in Thailand? I think the Doc is more on track!! There is no mention anywhere of a platform. this is a rural train line that goes through the countryside. Even at the station, you can just walk across the tracks, and a steady stream of people do, for the reasons previously mentioned. Done it myself countless times. Outside the station it is just track on level ground, nothing at all to keep anyone off it. The line does not run very frequently, just a few times a day. Please everyone refrain from speculations that could be painful to the man's family (and which you have no basis for one way of=r the other).
gpdjohn
Also, there is a crossing about 1/2 mile from the station close to the entrance to the Army base where there are markets across the street. There is no "crossbucks" sign at this crossing and the tracks are not viewable from the crossing. Would be quite easy to get hit by the train in this area at that time. It's not an isolated area, but out of sight from the mainstream. After 20+ years as a police officer I have never heard of "attending an incident"... we'd call it "guy got killed by a train.." ......He fell onto the track.... I guess from the platform? theajarn
It is too early to speculate but an elderly farang wandering along train tracks at 5 am in a poor state of dress in a Thai province doesnt leave much to the imagination. I'd be pissed if that's the case -- because a lot of harm could have been caused to those on the train as well in the event of a sudden jam on the brakes. What i dont understand is why all these ageing farangs are in SE Asia to start with. Why dont they just put up their feet and relax back home and enjoy your favourite wine and cheese . Why are they wandering around Thailand including ,it seems, on train lines. Is that a ridiculous question? ......probably. Not ridiculous mate and I know where you're coming from but to be fair its not like this happens every day. I thought jumping off balconies would be top of the list. Just for the record, I'm NOT saying this WAS a suicide. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
