sirtrevor
What would be the best option(s) in terms of security for a non-Thai husband married to Thai wife when owning land/property? The plan is the land/house will be in the wife's name, but what are the best options for me: usufruct or is there some other procedure? I'm thinking mainly of protecting myself if something happened to the wife, but all eventualities being covered would be preferable. Any advice from experienced individuals would be most appreciated. ballbreaker
Go with a usufruct on property and house that's good till end of your life. I would also have wife make will giving you property and house upon her death. You will be required to sell or transfer property into Thai persons name within one year. This allows you the option of selling and moving elsewhere but you will need to cancel usufruct. If you want to remain in the house then transfer to member of wife's family and the usufruct remains valid.
